11/14/05 (late)-11/15/05 NOW: Midwest-Mississippi Valley

If anyone is having online radar problems still you could just watch storm stories which is currently airing on TWC.

Now that the 0z soundings are in... BNA was a nice sample of the pre-storm environment, and it indicated ~500 sbCAPE with ~600 0-3km SRH. Meanwhile, the ILN sounding is stable for a surface parcel, though appears to have about 500 j/kg CAPE for a parcel centered near 850mb. Oh yeah, the 0-3km SRH is 1100 m2/s2! Since the environment appears stable to a surface parcel, I don't think any storms near ILN would be surface-based (though that was at 0z, so it may destabilize a bit with time before the front moves through). Most of the SRH is in the 0-1km range, so I'm not sure elevated convection would have the advantage of high SRH that characterizes the area. It's a very good thing we didn't have steeper lapse rates today, as 2000+ CAPE in the kinematic environment (i.e. incredible shear) in this part of the US is amazing.

Here in Washtenaw County we are in the heart of the warm sector, current temp is 61 degree's. However nothing here for storms to stay alive, so dont look for much more to happen here and they will probably cancel the Tornado Watch soon..

Wow... Our pressure has dropped over 2MBs in the past 8 minutes (continuing to drop)!

Check my weather station data... I can see a very narrow convective line getting ready to sweep through, visible only on the L2 data... Interesting.

FYI, the 88D at IND tends to trip false TVSs over Indianapolis when we're in VCP 12. It appears to be a clutter or beam blockage issue. We had less of them once we switched to VCP 121 in the afternoon to help with significant range folding problems.

Whats pretty funny though is they cancelled the Tornado watch and what do I get on radar? MESO! THe last 4 scans are showing rotation but yet the base velocity 0.5 degree is not showing anything??

Is this just an anomaly?

Darn! What sux is I just downloaded GR Level 3 and am playing with it. I've been using Weathertap, but this is pretty cool. It really would have been nice to have played with it while the show was going on.
