Best storm pic of the 08 season

Sweet! How did you manage to keep your camera so steady on your dash? Did you just have it sitting up there? I figure that was 1/4 to 1/2 second exposure? Pretty cool stuff.

I guess that is probably my current fave from the first chase of the year, March 30 west Oklahoma. Longer exposure shows the cyclonic rotation in the air around the storm.

Doug Raflik hit a slam dunk with images two and three and his use of the sign. Not always easy to find or incorporate clever foreground objects and especially when time isn't an option.

Yeah, what an incredible sequence there; probably among the best set of tornado shots from one day I've ever seen. Major props to Doug on those. Wow.

As for me, I never would've thought going out in March of all months would yield my best structure shots of the year, but it appears it may turn out that way... just goes to show, don't automatically discount early-season setups if you're able to chase. This is from between Rocky and Gotebo on March 30:

This shot was actually around 8 vertical images that I stitched into a tone mapped HDR image.

James, I love your pictures. I was admiring some of your other work after seeing this one. Do you always shoot 8 shots for your HDR? What steps are you using between them and what program are you using to render them. I just started to dabble in HDR yesterday. I can currently shoot 3 or 5 with my K10.

Thanks. Jim

For me this year ( so far) I like these the best. I am almost embarrassed to post any of my stuff in the same thread as Hollingshead's, Langford's and a couple of other pro's photos but here goes. ( I can use the accurate excuse that I still need better (non kit ) glass ;) )

Good day all ... Below is a panoramic of the Quintar, Kansas EF-4 tornado on May 23, 2008 at a 1/4 mile distance!

This wedge tornado was literally too big of a field of view to fit in a single frame!

I took a few black and white shots this year. Here is one at Quinten Kansas just before a tornado developed.

This is one of my favorites from the season thus far, sorry it's a crummy video capture. This is from the Ft. Supply tornado.

awesome shot James my vote

What makes this photo is the lighting with the sun layers of the clouds. Really magnificent. What software did you use to stich the pictures with? What was the ASA/ISO ? (could not tell from your site area - which is very well done.)
How much are the photos? 5 by 7 and above

Thanks Joey. I'm working on getting it printed as a large pano. I'll probably do 12x36, as I like that length.

I shot with a Canon 30D, and usually use a 20mm prime lens. This shot was actually around 8 vertical images that I stitched into a tone mapped HDR image. Quite a bit of extra work, but the effect is nice.
