Josh - You are right - October (and the W Caribbean) is shot this year. Even Otto, developing in an area that would have been praised a month ago, is moving ENE and another fish storm.
I've given up on any more hurricanes this year, and have already made post-season vacation plans.
Josh, you are one of the luckier ones on this board. Karl was a "gem" for you, and probably the only storm NOT weakening for those committing time and money to chase it.
For me, Igor was a real treat for me, at least I got an intercept in, and saw what a "fish storm" looks like on a tiny island.
The KEY to look for on pre-season (such as for 2011) is you really do not want to see above normal SST anomalies so far out in the E Atlantic. This LOOKED like a good thing in March 2010, but look what happened, every damn one of them recurved / stayed at sea.
