12/22/09-12/25/09 Midwest Winter Storm

I can no longer read this thread. It's too depressing / disappointing. Two good looking storms, and we get nothing over here in MI lol

From the tone of your post, I'd almost think you were disappointed that we're not gonna get dumped on. But you live in Michigan, so that can't possibly be. Admit it: inwardly, you're leaping and skipping for joy.

Looks like North Platte and Sioux Falls SD, have a swath of 15-20" starting in North Central Nebraska eastward into the SE corner of SD. If that pans out, im sure Minneapolis and southern half of Minnesota will see snow totals in that range. With the ice and rain over SE Nebraska and most of IA, i wouldn't be surprised if snow totals are cut down from the +12" that is being forecasted. I really think IA is going to end up with a big time ice storm out of this with close to 2" of ice.

I live in Cleveland...and it never fails...that whenever there's a big set up like this...we're always in the warm sector. A muddy 45* Christmas Day is not exactly what I had in mind.

This is OHIO. We dont get white christmases anymore. What happened to those famous Ohio winters? 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 were good.

Can anyone give me a prediction for western KS? Mainly around the Hays area. Would be much appreciated. SO far we are supposedly in a blizzard watch?

It's too early to tell for sure. The way the models show a slight warming trend...I'm not terribly confident in the snowfall predictions for Kansas. For example, Hastings was expressing doubt about how far north the freezing line would be, in their last forecast discussion. That's north of you, obviously.

Dodge City seems to think you'll have a wintry mix Tuesday night, changing to snow Wednesday. Followed by snow through Thursday. The timing of the changeover to all snow is up in the air.

All of this depends on the final track of the storm system...so forecasting total accumulations is left to educated guesswork.

Goodland NWS is currently saying approximately 8" along and north of I70. They are also planning on issuing a Blizzard Warning for when the winds ramp up Wed. Night.

Their last addition to the Forecast Discussion was at 4:35 PM today and they added:
TRAVEL ACROSS THE ENTIRE REGION WILL LIKELY BECOME HAZARDOUS...IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE...BY LATE WEDNESDAY.

Looks like their 20 extends back to near me. Kind of worried about getting rain for some of Wednesday's batch. I guess I keep forgetting you can waste 1.5 inches of liquid as rain and still get over a foot when there's another 2 inches prog'd to be used lol.

Definitely! In the big 1982 storm, the St. Louis area got 2 inches of rain, then 14-22 inches of snow, with thunder. There were flash flood and winter storm warnings in effect at the same time.

It would be nice to get this low to track further south or southeast of my area, and for my area (that covers Southeast Kansas, Northeast Oklahoma, and SW Missouri) to get some snow. I would be happy just to see it snow, lol. Looking at the NAM/GFS Models, I do not like what I am seeing. I can only hope before the winter is out that we can get a system to dive south enough to give us a chance of heavy snows. I will have to wait since today is the first day of winter.

Local stations pulled trigger late last week saying heavy snow for OKC metro possible...

It is looking like nearly all rain until maybe a burst of wet snow before the system leaves.

I hate getting screwed by the warm sector invasion! And that is usually piggy-backed by a huge dry slot here in central OK by the time cold air actually arrives.

Sigh... one of these storms will dump on us.... some day...

We don't get too many good snowstorms, but when we do we can get upwards of a foot of snow!

I would like a deep southern track of a low pressure system like the potent storm that will come in for the central plains before Christmas.

Local forecasters are talking about next weeks systems as well! I hear you on the dry slot area. We usually get in on that that kills our snow chances even with the potential of heavy snow accumulations.
