CHASE CASE 14

I'm being tempted further south or reasons I cannot explain. I will start the day in Lubbock (I slept in ok...) with the possibility of catching something pretty isolated down south. Initially, I was almost tempted to drop as far south as Midland, but the sensible side of me wants to keep northern areas of the panhandle available. I'm sure this is going to give me good bust potential, but I've had some good catches on earlier chase cases so I can afford an epic failure this time.

0z - staying put at my house north of Denver, throw some bbq on the drill, and get a good night's sleep.

12z - The outflow boundries and vis sat has the area of SW KS/NW OK/TX panhandle of interest. Will be awaiting the 15z update to see how far the the outflow boundries surge. The DDC sounding looks real pretty, but also want to position for when the short wave ejects out onto the plains. For the moment, hitting the road with an initial target of Garden City, KS, however going I-70 to Limon and down 287 and catch the 15z update in Lamar CO. This will allow me to make the left turn to KS or opt to move south towards the OK/TX panhandle.

Hello convergence! I'm really liking that convergence line running just west of a CDS-GAG-LBL-GCK line. Should get some good moisture pooling there through the day. I'm staying put in DDC for now, then mosey west toward GCK in an hour or so.

Clearly make out the convection induced boundary running W-E across OK now, this is inhibiting the real good juice from surging North, though it appears a narrow tongue of unstable air is building North as far as the KS/NE border West of a a Lawton to Hays line. I'd probably be best off holding tight in DDC but as often occurrs when I'm early to get into chase mode I start getting restless and end up moving around to much. Think as of 15Z I'm going to leave the hordes of chasers in DDC and head SW towards Liberal, and wait for the DL to sharpen up; from there I can get N or S as well as NE or SW in a hurry, which is good as I'm not sure if I'm gonna play W KS or N TX yet...

Elk City, OK I like the dryline coming in from the west, with the stationary boundary/outflow boundary drifting to the south, moving a triple point to my location by afternoon.

After stopping in Woodward at 9:30 to check the 15Z information, I'm interested to see what I think is further westward progress of the outflow boundaries. Dew points reaching up along the eastern TX panhandle/western OK border look good to me too. Maybe I'll try to hover around that intersection. So I'm going to break west on Hwy 270 and head for Liberal, KS. After taking time to check the info & grab some gas & a snack, I should reach Liberal sometime between 12:00 & 12:30 in time to check 18Z updates.

I left Hays, KS a short time ago after a nice big brunch (not sure when I'll get a chance to eat a big meal again). I had originally intended on heading to Garden City, KS but after seeing the 15Z updates I think I'l hit the deeper juice further south in Liberal, KS (I should be there by 1pm) This should provide an ideal position in case it looks like this will play in the OK panhandle or still end up further north. I think the approaching DL, Dews, clear sky and possible boundary intersections near here should provide as good a location as any. I'll be looking forward to 18Z for confirmation and will adjust as necessary.

Liking my position in Woodward. Good backed winds in NW/NC OK and SC/C KS. Staying put.
