CHASE CASE 14

Oooh.. nice multple vortex tornado reported near me... was I on it? I'm not sure. If the tornado was with the tail end charlie, probably. IT looks from the reports it might have been a bit further north. Lets give myself the benefit of the doubt and I'll have jumped onto it due to the sig being pretty impressive for that cell. I wouldn't have been more than 20 minutes drive from it at any point

In reality, I'd probably be upset to have missed out on the Hill City tornado, but the Floydada cell sounds like somewhat of a monster also. Did anyone chase Texas on this particular day? If so are there any chase accounts of this storm? Photos? Videos? I've seen a couple of damage photos from a brief search but nothing more...

Wow, I now have my first virtual tornado/tornadoes! It is funny that I never figured out this date until the storm reports were posted. I left my target of SW Kansas to head up and catch the stuff in NW Kansas. I actually chased on this date down in Meade County, KS. LOL. I wish I could trade the virtual chasing with the actual date! Oh well I still got two "rain-crapped" tornadoes down there, south of Fowler. Here is a link to the edited video from that day in SW Kansas. I nearly got zapped in the last clip of the videos! I got back in the car REAL quick after that. I think my face actually looked like that too!!!

Wow. It looks like I was 'on' the productive Meade storm & its successors, but it's hard to say whether driving conditions would have allowed me to get far enough west to see the touchdowns on the NW side of Meade between 5:30-6:00 pm. The 7:05 pm F1, heading SE on the East side of Meade should have been within reach though.

Thanks very much for posting this chase case, Matt.

This was a difficult one for me-but 60 miles either way-So I guess I would have missed it all

Thanks Matt! This was very enjoyable (and educational) for me. Looks like I would have seen at least one tornado on that Meade county system, although like Jeremy stated the road system is a bit tight around there.

I'll be having a T-bone, medium rare with a Coors please!

I didn't chase this event in rl, but it's interesting that some participants, including myself, figured the cells further north were probably HP in nature, while the Meade, Co. cell was probably more classic and discreet. In reality, it looks like the tornadoes on the Meade storm were rain-wrapped, and that this is not necessarily the case with the northern storms. I feel pretty good, having picked Meade to bed down in the previous night, but my antsy self just HAD to move around a bit and burn some fuel. I guess it just wouldn't be a chase without some of that expense, LOL. Marc, I'll meet you back in Liberal for a decent juicy steak.

Thanks again, Matt. This one was pretty interesting with that sagging OFB across OK, the dry line explosion, and the early action up in nrn KS.

I didn't figure this date out until the first hook echo was displayed at 21z with the storm near Hill City, KS. I actually thought it was an earlier date. I was talking to Darin on the phone and asking him which day he thought was a tornado day near HLC with an outflow boundary nearby...and it hit me right away. I couldn't chase this day and probably the reason why I didn't recognize it right away.

Amos Magliocco has some great shots of the Trego Center supercell as well: http://www.cycloneroad.com/2005june9.htm

Wow, the gator head inflow tail day! I should have recognized the date when the results were first posted. I knew I should have blasted north in this virtual chase. Excellent pics, and I was definitely wrong about the HP nature of the northern storms. Nice work to those of you who chased and succeeded in rl.

23Z update:

Moving north out of Ness City, KS. Should be in Trego county just after 23Z and will intercept the storm.

0Z update:

Staying on Trego County, KS storm, on dirt, south of WaKeeney.

Well ... I'd say chances are pretty good that I saw one if not more than one tornado. How about a nice 24oz Porterhouse?

I was pretty close to this one 2202 4 SSW VICI DEWEY OK 3610 9933 VERY BRIEF TOUCHDOWN REPORTED BY KFOR SPOTTER (OUN

BUt I know I missed the show

I will give you credit for that one Dennis, and I am sure that you would have intercepted this day. Enjoy your steak buddy!!

Hard to say exactly how I came out on this virtual chase. I would have been around 12 miles NE of the Vici, OK tornado, and might have been able to take a back road closer when I visually observed the storm. But the tornado was brief, so it is questionable whether I could have seen it. Also questionable whether I could have gotten to the Floydada tornado later - probably I was a little too far north, but I suppose theoretically it is possible.

Didn't chase this day in real life.

Sorry for the lateness of this post; things kind of got away from me the last few days and I didn't have a chance to check the results until tonight.

My cell south of Woodward died. Hope I caught a tube around 22Z before it did! I am now blasting west toward the TX panhandle to try to catch a cell along the line that has explosively developed along the dryline. I've still got 2 hours of daylight, so I am hopeful!
