12/22/09-12/25/09 Midwest Winter Storm

Look's like the low is turning towards the north.

Here's a pic I shot about an hr ago. I'm located about a mile east of the NWC.

Add Omaha area to blizzard warning list. Fwiw I measured ice earlier and we did end up with right at 1/2 inch. It's made the tree dance 09 fun to observe. Just sucks I probably won't get any crashing tree vid now that it is getting dark and winds are getting worse. Guessing if they are going to go they'll go overnight.

Just shot some quick vid outside the front door of some drifts at the building across the sidewalk...would estimate about 2 feet. I'm going to wait until morning to check snow depth because it is still coming down.

My driveway and my car:

2-3 foot drift along the sidewalk to my door:

After venturing outside I would say we easily have over 10". Probably close to 11.

Blizzard warnings in KC as well and the sleet has changed to snow and has quickly accumulated being blown around like crazy but not enough to create seriously reduced visibility yet. A very intense band looks to be heading north at the moment and it could dump a load of snow here shortly!

Sleet finally changed over to all snow here in Bville, now coming down moderate to heavy. Anything east of a BVO-Tulsa line is still either all sleet or sleet/snow mix. The transition line to all snow has taken much longer to move east across these areas than what was originally anticipated.

Pretty brutal here in B.A.
We're in a heavy sleet-snow mix right now, high winds & low visibility. This stuff really stings if your face is uncovered. I guess we'll be lucky to get 6 inches of snow given the duration of sleet here. But this is one awesome storm either way.

Christmas with the family was a quick one this evening, hard to tell how hard it's snowing with the way it's blowing around, but with the 8"+ still on the ground from last storm and what has come down today, it's getting pretty bad. In the back yard here (in town) we have a drift ALREADY pushing 6-7'. With the a good 1/4" of ice coating the trees from yesterday and the winds blowing like they are, I'm thankful for power, big old Elm tree in back has already dropped a BUNCH of branches, some 6"+ in size. Going to be INSANE by morning...

Will be interesting to see what the models tonight do with the low come after Friday 18Z, we could be in for a long duration event of ground blizzard conditions as the low parks itself over NW IA...

I90 From Minnesota to Chamberlain SD is closed and I29 from North Dakota to Nebraska is closed sounds like listening to the Sioux falls public safety scanner quite a few cars on the interstate still.

Add Texas to the list - been snowing off and on since around 9 a.m., have about a half inch to an inch on the grassy surfaces. Still coming down, with another heavier burst moving into the Burleson, TX area as I write this. We may have a White Christmas morning, but abundant sunshine will allow it to melt by afternoon. Dangit. :) Better than none at all, right?

Merry Christmas!

That is so awesome that you got snow Karla!

I understand that! Felt like getting sandblasted, but by sleet in your face! Was out taking footage of the sleet storm since it has been all sleet for hours now!

The way the radar looks, I think SE KS, SW MO may have dodged a bullet. Precip still falling as sleet here outside Joplin. I'm not expecting more than a couple inches of snow after the transition. Still, the sleet has been ongoing for about 4 hours and now has a about a 1/2" crust on all the roads. A few wrecks. Not too bad. Even some thunder in the last 15 minutes or so.
