12/22/09-12/25/09 Midwest Winter Storm

Tulsa Breaking weather update

Thundersnow and sleet is now over Coweta moving NW toward Tulsa metro.

I have heavy sleet covering the ground white. The winds gusting to near 50+.

We've switched to all snow now in Shenandoah, IA. It's heavy snow, visibilities down to about 1/4-1/2 mile. Winds are whipping it around from the north.

According to radar trends, this heavy band will keep shifting slowly west for a while and we'll get out of it for a while. It should pick back up later as the low begins shifting northeast. The heaviest precipitation has been set up from about here up to near Denison, IA since late morning and hasn't really moved. It will be interesting to see if it stays in this general area later or sets up somewhere else.

Just returned back from OKC getting my wife's bro. It was harrowing to say the least. Almost got stuck on 206th just west of Piedmont Rd. when one of our neighbours got stuck in front of me. Took him home and barely made it back here to the farm. Mike Morgan on KFOR is calling this a "statewide disaster" if I heard right. Un-freaking-belivable!!!

2.3 inches of rain at my place since this all started. Standing water in the back yard, neighbor's yard and my basement. Both sumps can't keep up with it.

I envy you guys with the 3 inch per hour snow rates. I can't even imagine what that looks like.

i guess it doesnt want to snow in tulsa. its been sleeting here heavily for 2 hours now

Snow rates Okla.

The leading edge of the 2-4" per hour snow rates now is along a line from BVO-TUL-ADA-ADM. Expect white conditions in the TULSA METRO ARE BY 5:00 PM. All roads are sleet cover in the metro and rapidly getting worse.

Sleet falling here on SW side of KC metro now. NWS here in KC is planning on issuing blizzard warnings for KC metro area here shortly once the changeover happens here around 6pm or so. This is going to be a wild night for us here in KC!

Just had changeover to sleet here outside Joplin in extreme SE KS. Ground still wet from drizzle all day and it's 32 here so nothing piling up on the ground, ice accumulating on elevated surfaces.

Heavy snow currently falling here in Mankato...I would guess its right around 1 inch per hour rates right now

Heavy snow must be lurking just west of Bartlesville, stuck in the sleet right now.

Add Texas to the list - been snowing off and on since around 9 a.m., have about a half inch to an inch on the grassy surfaces. Still coming down, with another heavier burst moving into the Burleson, TX area as I write this. We may have a White Christmas morning, but abundant sunshine will allow it to melt by afternoon. Dangit. :) Better than none at all, right?

Merry Christmas!

The radar along with snow rate's are now 4" per hour in SE Osage County in Creek County to just west of down town Tulsa.

Power is now going off & on in Owasso.

Visibility dropped down to less than a 1/4 mile give or take depending on the terrain. Sometimes less than 100 foot at some points. Mostly sleet with a small mix of snow. It's really starting to accumulate with some small drifts starting to build up. I was seeing wind gust just exceeding 30mph but mostly 20-25. Temps are 19.6f right now and varying slightly.

I don't think my stream to CTV wall was working (Steve?). Right now I'm streaming off my cell phone out my front window. If anyone wants to see it just go to my website in the sig and click on the Cell Phone Stream on the left just ignore the kids on the audio.

Just south of Rose Hill KS.

Snow beginning to taper off in OKC.

The metro is crippled. Nearly all roads are impassable and every Interstate remains closed. Multiple pile ups on the highways, I believe there has been multiple casualties in terms of wrecks so far.

Historic blizzard no doubt. Christmas Eve 2009.

Here in Edmond I not sure how much we have (7"-10"), but I do see a 2 foot plus drifts. Gunna gear up and venture outside for a few pics.
