12/22/09-12/25/09 Midwest Winter Storm

I am truly jealous of you guys down in Oklahoma. What an epic blizzard! On Christmas Eve no less. You guys definitely deserve it after being screwed over so many times over the last several winters. Enjoy it!

Looks like 1-2 feet will fall from from OK to the Dakotas and Minnesota. Southwest MN may be the sweet spot from the looks of things. Amounts could approach two feet there. I also like the area right along the Missouri River all along the NE/IA border. 15-20" looks pretty good in those areas.

Still expecting 2" of rain here before switching to snow late tomorrow. Could pick up 2-4" by Sunday in a long duration light snow event with the wraparound.

Snow Rate update OK

Snow is now just west of Tulsa should be all snow shortly.

Also looks like upgrade to Blizzard Warning NE/OK will be issued soon.

Snow rates range from 2-4" per hour from Payne County SSW toward the TX state line.

This area is moving east and expanding.

PS: Greg thanks on the verification.

I wonder if there is going to a pivot with the low and the northward push will be soon. OKC is about to be out of the heavy stuff if the low keeps on truckin east.

Would love to see some of that heaviest stuff they have around the Norman area pushed northward :]

Very heavy snow just sitting over the heart of OKC right now. Scattered 35Dbz in that thick band. Insane snow rates must be occurring south of OKC in that big blob of heavy precip. Scattered patches of 40Dbz down there and it's all snow. Wouldn't be surprised to see some reports of thunder especially south of OKC.

heavy sleet here in south tulsa now. My backyard is beginning to turn white

Heavy sleet still falling about 20 miles south of Tulsa. Temp is 29.1 degrees. The sidewalk has changed from all liquid to ice in last 15 minutes.

It's been sleeting for a few hours here in Shenandoah, IA (southwest corner). We had a glaze of ice overnight that made all nonmajor and side roads very slick. We're now starting to get a few big snowflakes mixed in. Hoping to switch over to all snow soon, so we can realize those 12"+ totals that are being kicked around!

Temperature is already down to 21F.

White out conditions here in SE/NE. Fully expect to lose power sometime within the next 24 hours. Just took a little drive around and ice is covering everything. Winds are ~25-30 kts sustained and are only going to increase threw Friday. The way it looks now my next post will be from my car using my inverter to charge my computer and cameras while trying to stay warm!!

Just heard OHP is closing all major highways going into and out of OKC and surrounding counties. Here in Shawnee, blowing snow after several hours of sleet. Snow is coming down fast and sideways with major wind gusts

All Interstates closed in Central OK.

Still snowing moderately here in Edmond; looks like the snow is coming to an end soon for us here. Tulsa looks like it is next.

NWS reporting heavy snow and 1/4 mi. vis. in Augusta, KS. Appears severe blizzard conditions are developing over the Kansas Flint Hills counties from south to north.
