Foot's Forecast

Was not sure where to put this. I was told about a local group that puts out forecasts. www.footsforecast.org.

It is a High School teacher in Baltimore and he has a group of students who forecast for the Baltimore area. They have also picked up forecasters in other parts of MD, PA, and VA. They are going to be launching a severe weather page this weekend. With forecasters in GA and FL. I know it is not Plains forecasting but it looks to be expanding.

It is a pretty interesting group. Especially the HS group.

This is a great way for high school age students to learn the basics of forecasting. Not only that, but they will also be given a new dimension to the power of the atmosphere - and a new respect for what severe weather forecasters and meteorologists, both government, private, and public, must do every day while on duty for the purpose of forecasting and/or warning the public.

LOL...Oh Boy...Mr. Foot. Boy has it been an interesting story around here. Apparently because he and his class called the big February storms earlier than the TV mets and a few Weather Service forecasts, a lot of folks were calling in as to why the two traditional sources for forecasts didn't "know" about the storm until two days before, and in some cases under estimated the forecasted amounts. It's been fun seeing the whole thing unfold locally. Still trying to get him on for the Weather Talk Radio show in IPR, but not yet.

Side note: Catina, how did you fair through the second phase of that February storm. Was up there during some of those high winds...it was crazy!

Wow! This is really neat! I think one of the Central MD forecasters was at the summer weather camp for high schoolers I helped run in the summer of '09. I'm very impressed!

And Jason, I had no clue these guys were so well known in MD and that they had pegged the February storms before the TV meteorologists back home!

Jason the winds were crazy up here. A lot of trees in our neighborhood lost limbs or just simply came down. Our windows were rattling all day and night. We did not loose power though. We have Allegheny Power and most if not all of the lines are buried. Although I was told the High tension wires across 340 were arching and spitting sparks all over. 15 N&S was closed just north of Frederick due to 4 over blown semi's.
