Probably got one tornado in Wallace/Sherman Co, KS but I'm not too happy since a few mistakes made me race with time, should have moved north earlier of stay where I was and head for DDC area storms once the fired up.

Sproingity-sproing-sproing, Tigger Dance! O happy day! O rapture, O jubilation! I've transitioned from banging my head on the steering wheel to chasing wedges, and my tears have turned to joy. Yeah, baby!

Now that my need for tornado gratification has been filled, I'm curious to see the stats for this event. It was obviously one hell of a day out on the Plains, and a virtual tornado chucking large virtual debris probably wasn't a good thing in real life.

I watched this event from my computer and I will never forget this day. I think there was hundreds of people viewing the NOW thread when this event was ongoing. I have a summary I will post after Jeff posts the date.

A final tornado watch was issued for portions of SW TX and SE NM, and the following warning text may further give this day away:

I am, of course, referring to March 28, 2007. Many large, damaging tornadoes this day and many people, including Mike H., who saw the Grant, NE wedge, hit it big on this day. Feel free to share stories, accounts, images etc.

I would like to thank all of those of you who participated in the first virtual chase case I directed. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did making it. I may look into doing another one soon that is less well known so there aren't so many people telling me they know what day it is before anything happens!

Thanks a lot for putting this together Jeff! You did an awesome job! I did recognize the date early on, but still looked at all of the data and tried to forecast as if I did not know the date (ended up in Meade, KS). Thanks once again for putting all of this together.

March 28, 2007. This was a historic event and one I will never forget as I watched
from my computer with many others the event unfold. North, Carolina
was the first to see severe weather as storms moved through the Rocky Mount area
producing Baseball sized hail destroying windshields on vehicles at the mall. Many storms
in NC produced hail Golf ball size. South Dakota had an impressive storm between the
black hills and the badlands that showed strong rotation and a hook on radar.
A TVS was also present and incredible G2G shear but no tornado or
funnel cloud was reported. Around 5:15 PM a tornado warning was issued
for the storm by Plainview and the storm had a DBZ of 68. Near Silverton
the storm took on a NE track and a tornado was reported on the ground 10 miles SW
of Silverton. Silverton was spared.

Many supper cells formed from TX to NE. 80 tornadoes
would be reported from Texas to Nebraska (2 near NE/SD line) with 2 brief tornadoes
reported in central IL. An EF2 tornado came within one mile of Bird City, Kansas.
Power flashes was reported and this tornado was constantly back lit by lightning.
Mark Farnick due to debree blocking the highway was forced to move north back into
the path of this tornado. He took shelter in a house as the tornado came very close to
his area if not over the house he was in. He hid under a table and made it out fine.
Benkleman, Nebraska was hit by a tornado possibly from the same storm that moved through
Bird City, Kansas. Mike Hollingshead would see a large nighttime tornado near
Grant and Oggallala, Nebraska. A large wedge tornado may have moved through Holly, Colorado.
Some of the tornadoes in Kansas were possibly on the ground for over an hour.

2.75" hail damaged many windshields in Amarillo and Softball sized
hail (4.50") was reported in Pantex. 4.25" hail was reported in Dundy County, Nebraska.
A 87 MPH wind gust was reported in Carson County, Texas
and a 127 MPH wind gust was reported 1 mile east of McLean in Gray, Texas. The gust
was possibly associated with a tornado. A 90 MPH wind gust was reported 8 miles NE of
Ogallala, Nebraska. 4 people lost their lives and 2 people were injured from the tornadoes.
There is a total of 298 severe weather reports for this day.

Happy to report that I got at least one tornado near Montezuma, KS, and maybe a second one, as well.

A virtual chase like this one is sure and educational experience, and I also thank you very much Jeff, for your effort in putting it all together.

Obviously, the TX panhandle was the very best place to be for this event. I chose to cruise southern KS, as I was convinced this was where the better shear and moisture was.

For those of you who chose TX as your "battle zone", congratulations to all. I would like to ask you, however, what it was that convinced you this is where the action would be. Was it the sharp dryline, tongue of steeper lapse rates over the panhandle or the jet streak exit region accompanying the trough base? Or maybe it was all the above.

More discussion and input about this event would be very welcome. While I don't expect anyone to reveal their "secrets", I always jump at the chance to learn from others.

Cheers,

John Hudson

This was a great day! My avatar was the tornado south of Clarendon that I got, better known as the Brice tornado.

Yeah I recognized this day and withdrew from the chase. The "Holly Day" as us CO chasers remember it. I am however a little discouraged with my virtual chase up to the point where I recognized the date because I was a little too far E. I'd like to think I could've made it back W in time for some action in SW Kansas but definitely would've missed Holly. Great day to pick! Congrats to all the others in the TX panhandle, that was the place to be. Thanks Jeff for putting this together!
