• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

Any RadarScope updates in the pipe?

After reading this I was comparing radarscope to gr level 3 and with the smoothing turned off on gr level 3 the images are very similar, but with smoothing turned on there is a big difference. I love both programs and use them both all the time. I would love to see warning boxes and storm tracks on radarscope though then it could be used as a complete backup for gr level 3 if I can't get it to update.

I'm gonna try to post some screenshots to compare the resolutions, but I have never tried this on this site and have no idea how its gonna work. I'm trying 3 images two are from gr level 3 one with smoothing on and one off. The other is radarscope from my iPhone. I tried to zoom in about the same on both from the same radar site.

RadarScope 1.5

RadarScope 1.5 is now available in the App Store. This version is a universal app for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. In addition to full screen support for the iPad, it includes support for the new higher resolution level III reflectivity and velocity products, Spotter Network locations on the map, automatic radar selection based on your location, radar favorites, and integrated radar status.

Many thanks to all of you who have purchased RadarScope and recommended it to others.

Nice update, but no warning polygons? Is that even in your to do list? It would seem to me that warning polygons would be high on the "things chasers need" list when it comes to a radar app. Storm tracks help, too. You know, all that level 3 stuff.

As someone trying to use radarscope as a chase tool and not just a pocket toy, these are the things I was eagerly looking forward to in this update.

Mike,

Very nice update -- thanks for all of the work you put into this product!

Like Ryan, i am also eagerly awaiting the day that warning polygons are integrated into RadarScope. It will make a great product even better.

Thanks again,
Bryan

Hi Ryan,

Yes, those features are on the list. When NWS announced the high resolution level III products and the phaseout of the old stuff, we chose to focus on that transition first. Native support for iPad was also a high priority. We have features in the queue for versions 1.6 and 1.7.

Sorry if I missed this, but I just upgraded to 1.5 (and I didn't read the release notes). What is the difference between the base reflectivity and the enhanced base reflectivity? Is this the new higher resolution data?

I *really* like being able to see where other spotters are, and it shows me their ham call sign/frequency/phone numbers, etc.

I was chasing Friday night in East Texas, and the killer for me was AT&Ts lack of a network out there. Too much of the night, both my phones were showing "no network". When I did have one, it was "E". I *LOVE* not having to fool with a laptop, and RadarScope is excellent, but I really hope the iPhone gets to Verizons network late this year as rumored.

Oh...and put me down as another happy customer who is looking forward to the polygons and circulation indicators would be awsome too.

Version 1.51 was released today. Looks to be a minor mainly bug fix release.

Change log:

  • Default data provider now set to iMapWeather to route around AT&T/NOAA issues
  • Fixed crashing bug with SpotterNetwork reporting
  • Fixed In-Call Status Bar Bug
  • Corrected list of states in Radar List view
Thanks for the updates!

any chance of Radar Scope being ported over to the Palm OS specificly for the Palm Pre? If not can anyone recommend any radar products that are close to the same. I find the weather channel app lacking. Any sugestions?
