Another Chase Case! #9

Pattern recognition tells me to get a little further east than normal based on wave timing and LL and ML jet positions. I am going to hang out around Chanute KS. Am in a good LLJ and will be some hellacious SR shear here when initiation occurs.

I like Manhattan, Kansas as well. Great upper level support, great shear, outside the reach of the early morning cloud-cover and convection.

My sense is that it's all going to come together later in extreme northeast KS. The dry punch at 700Mb makes me not want to be too far west and the convectively compromised air not too far east or north. I want good road options because my data connection tends to go down until 18Z which allows several hours' less relocation time. So I'll start the morning in downtown St. Joseph, MO, near the river.

*Kicks Darin in the head a few times, while dragging him to Wichita, KS.*

I totally agree, Drag that dude to Wichita. It doesn't get any better than this. Just look at all the LL moisture all the way up into S. Iowa out ahead of a very distinct dryline. Kudos to you Dick for dragging him out. I am sure when it is all said and done you will be able to say " I told you so, Ding Dong".

I am going to hang at home here in Springfield until more data comes in. It looks like the cloud cover may keep things down a bit. Hopefully the sun will come out to destablize things. Winds are backed nicely east of the boundary. I have no idea where I will end up going to.

Holy Cow!!! We've got some great participation! Thanks for participating. I actually enjoy putting these things together. They take a lot of time, but they're a great learning experience. I will post 15Z data shortly. Keep an eye out for it. In the mean time, I'm going to take a look at the other Chase Case #9 and see where I want to target.

Hey MATT! Meet me at the McD's on E. Battlefield and We will scoot to Joplin. I think big things are in store for E. Ks earlier and maybe chase back this way later on. What you say???

I am going to head south towards DFW and hope to catch something down in that area. I will hang out and wait in McAlester Ok. until the next update. I definately feel that this will be and I-20 event from Texarkana to Wichita Falls. Too much cloud cover to the north for anything substantial to happen north of I-40. I will hang out in McAlester, and that is my final answer folks!

McAlester Oklahoma is the spot of the day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That sounds like a good idea Buddy, I will meet you at McDonalds and we can go over the convective outlook for the day. I tell you what, I will go to McAlester, and you go to E. Kansas, and I will keep in radio contact with you during the event. I am pretty sure things will pop to the south in SE Oklahoma. But you have a good idea where you are going. Lets do it, meet me at Mc Donalds, and I have to go down 44 anyway and then south on 69 in Oklahoma. Its on like Donkey Kong. What are you seeing in Kansas if you don't mind me asking???

A Woman :-) lmao Seriously... I like the wind fields in this area and I still feel the LLJ will drive things through this area in the evening hours. Only thing... It may be an early evening into the night event in this area like most of ours are. We will go over things in Joplin and decide then.

Marc, big thanks for putting these together. In real life right now, it's so cold here in Michigan that the snowmen are wearing parkas, but in Chase #8, I've got 60s dewps and storms moving in. I'm also chasing in Kansas and Nebraska. That's three states at once--not too bad, I'd say. This isn't a complete cure for SDS, but it sure takes the edge off, and it's a great way to learn a few things and sharpen my skills for the spring. Again, thanks to you and everyone else who has put these chase scenarios together.

I'm looking forward to the next model run.

Target: I-35 and Route 412 in OK, N of OKC

EDIT: 13 year old daughter is over this weekend and chasing this one with me. Going to take her input into our target location and see how she does! :)
