9/15/04 NOW: Hurricane Ivan [Gulf Coast]

I have taken that road many times with my dad on our way to Pensacola... It's amazing what Ivan has done.

Those tracks do seem pretty ridiculous... unheard of to see where they are predicting it to go... hehe.

What do you think the guy on that truck was thinking?

Atlanta is getting hammered at the moment. I haven't seen any radar or obs, but TWC is breaking up, lots of fade outs.

Yeah, I've been waiting for some of these offices to get more of the storm reports posted from the tornadoes last night - knew the 8 wasn't quite right - too bad that they were so destructive. Reports already starting to come in of more tornado injuries today.

What do you think the guy on that truck was thinking?

"I sure am glad I have this big, long truck so I get wedged in, rather than falling into the ocean." I can only wonder how he extricated himself from the truck, and how he got off the bridge in that maelstrom.

Tim

Who knows, maybe he didn't even make it. If that's the case, that sucks. But I always say, 'nobody in American gets killed from hurricanes because they didn't know it was coming.'

Sadly, he didn't, at least according to the news reports we're getting. And I do have to wonder what he wsa doing out there, since being on a bridge in a hurricane is bad enough, but being on a bridge in a hurriane while driving a vehicle with a large windward surface area . . .

Here is a closer look at the truck:

I hadn't noticed in the earlier images that the entire front half of the truck is missing.

Glen

as you can see from the pictures, there are 14 centerline stripes on the road between the first displaced bridge segment and the point of complete failure. The cycle distance between stripes is 40 feet according to a little googling. If that number is wrong, please tell me.

That meens he had 560 feet of warning.
