That's really nothing all that new. CPC has been putting out generalized outlooks that cover a similar time period like this now for a number of years. Here's an example:

I check that page pretty often to get a general idea where the severe weather threat may be in the days ahead. Plus, they also have a brief forecast discussion underneath the graphics.

Wheres the link to the thunderstorm probabilities, the other 4-8 day outlook works for me as well
