Chase Case #9

I'll start heading towards Grand Island, NE but I will be ready to hang further north as needed. Im gonna look more closely at the data to get a better picture of the setup but I will stick with Grand Island for now.

Hmm... think I'll join Verne, Randall, and Jason in North Platte, NE for the time being. I'm liking what I see on the North Platte sounding, and am interested to see if any boundaries are left behind when the stratus deck over the eastern NE Panhandle erodes, as Jason mentioned. Though with the warm front lifting north through the day and the best moisture advecting in a little farther to the east, I'm thinking a move north and east is going to be warranted. But until I get more data, I'm just chilling in North Platte and shooting the bull with the other chasers, waiting for the next update...

I like the sounding out of Omaha, NE. A rather substantial CAP in place and CAPE on the increase.. nice change in wind direction from 500 to 850mb. I like Beatrice, NE for my location.

Jee, this is a tough one. I think I will hang out here in Springfield, Missouri. The sounding looks conditionally stable as of 12z, so I think I will hang here at home and BBQ. Not interested in getting to crazy about chasing this event. I will go to my parents house in Republic and go swimming. Looks like everything is up north and that is too far to drive on a large slt risk hatch area. Good luck to everyone up in Nebraska.

MY target for this sytem will be between Grande Island NE and Lincoln NE. Awaiting further data updates.

Hey Matt, You sure you dont want to chase this one with me in SE Nebraska? Im thinkin we could have a fun afternoon and evening :D

Leaving kenesaw,Ne and blasting east to Davenport, Iowa-sit there and see what happens

I'll start out in Lincoln, NE. Decent winds, moisture tongue, and a front. A focus could develop further west and I might be heading west, but that can wait till 18Z. Right now it looks kind of dry and chilly to the west.

Well, we have decided to leave Springfield and head for Salina Kansas. We are in Kansas City now and heading west bound on I-70, so hopefully we will be able to see development to our west soon. Temperatures are in the 70's with high dewpoints. Winds are backed nicely across the Goodland area, and I anticipate that the boundary will have pushed towards the Salina and Ft. Riley areas. We will be at Cracker Barrel in Ft. Riley around 18z to catch the new update. Our plan is to then head north into Nebraska and go to Cabela's along I-80 and wait for cells. So our pick will be Cabela's, and our final stop will likely be the Beatrice area of Nebraska, or Kearney. Unless we see something at 18z that changes our mind we will chase in S. Nebraska this time.

I'll start the day in Salina, KS. I see plenty of directional and speed shear here and am hoping the cap won't be too strong in this area by late afternoon. If I have too, I can still hop on 70 and head west or head north into NE. I can also shoot south into OK if a nice isolated supercell emerges. This looks to be a good chase day over good terrain. I'm stoked! It's nice not to know thed date for once!

It doesn't seem like much, but I have a feeling about the Oklahoma Panhandle for this one. It's pretty marginal, and all depends on how the 850 and 500 millibar fields shake out. If I were chasing this one, I would target Guymon, Oklahoma. I'll be leaving shortly and should arrive prior to the 18Z update.
