South of Wakeeney, Kansas, very late in the day on May 22. Not quite as sharp as I'd like it to be, but the late day light provided a surreal glow behind the tornado. We paid for this intercept by being slammed with the hook a couple minutes later.

Below is a photo of me shooting the tornado pix above (courtesy Virginia Tech student Jordan Rollins, sitting in the back of the van) ... you'll recognize it in my sig as well ...

After filming this similar shot from the same spot we blasted up to Wakeeny and nearly got hit by probably the same tornado ten minutes later at the restaurant next to the interstate. We could hear a metel building getting trashed just about a quater of a mile south of us then we bailed into the kitchen. As it turned out the tornado lifted as it went over us while we were going into the restaurant, the wind went from east to westerly in a matter of seconds. Luckly the video camera was on during this drama.

My favorite pics are from the same supercell. What a year. So many wallclouds, so few tornadoes.

These are from the Gridley IL supercell. (Same day and general area as John's pics above.)

First tornado.

My best shots came on May 2nd in Turrell, AR from the EF-3 tornado that hit Earle, AR.

First my picture:

Then this is a picture I found cruising the websites a few days later. I contacted the station and gained permission. My truck parked in front of my first ever daytime, not rain wrapped tornado.

First pic is the EF4 wedge SW of Quinter still several miles out:

Second pic heading more towards Park here as it's still about a mile S of I70:

I only have poor stills from a -then- budget camcorder of the trunk crossing the interstate, but Hark has captured it well. :)

Saw many a tube this year even though half of them were at night. Looks like the Quinter wedge takes the "most seen" award this year. Wish I could have seen it myself. The most photogenic storm for Brandon and I this year was the cyclic beast in NC OK on May 24.

Good day all,

Had some great shots this year ... Hat's off to all who did such a fantastic job!

I also got awesome footage of the Roby Tx tornado on April 23 but never took any video stills like I did on these.
