For what it's worth, the Gulf of Mexico's surface temperature is now near normal...just in time for hurricane season and for June chasing. Now if only that stationary front over the northern Gulf Coast could go away and let the Gulf moisture stream northward...

As of May 15-21, the warmest area of +1 - +2 C anomalies is off the SE LA and MS coast while the southern Gulf continues a bit ( < 1 C) cooler than normal.
SSTs over the entire gulf are now over 26 C, except for a little area in the NE.
