Data Execution Prevention

Lets go back to basics. How much RAM do you have? Are you running any other programs while you work with Sony Vegas?

Also, you may need to look at defragging your hard drive. This can also lead to crashing problems and video editing programs are particularly sensitive to this. How much hard drive space is available? Other things to consider.

1.25 Gigs of Ram. I've got FF running but shutting that down doesn't change anything.

I've ran the defragger but it said that I do not need to defrag.

Sony Vegas seems to be working now but any of the TMPG software as well as DVD Studio crashes.

Depending on your computer, your BIOS may have DEP enabled by default. Can you run the following commands?

From an Administrative command prompt:
wmic OS Get DataExecutionPrevention_Available

Will return TRUE is hardware-enforced DEP is on.

From an Administrative command prompt:
wmic OS Get DataExecutionPrevention_SupportPolicy

Should return a integer between 0 and 3 showing the policy level.

Greyed out settings can also mean that the user you are logged-in as does not have the permissions to change those settings.

You aren't doing a very good job of explaining exactly what you have or have not done from what has been suggested, which makes it difficult to know how to help you further.

This guy loved Vista (imagine that!) after making these three changes
