Chase Case #7

I saw the date on the map--but was in the process of trying to figure a good place to go--I was mainly looking at upper winds and dew points-and the Cape in OKC, so I was thinking of somewhere in far north eastern Oklahoma--but as the date was posted i went and looked--big day lots of action---had me rechecking the data further.
So for me even though we can all see the date-I still was able to get a lot out of seeing my initial thoughts, versus the actual day-before any other inputs were available--so it still was a valid Case--thanks

I didn't notice the date and it wouldn't have mattered anyway, since I probably didn't chase it. I see that a number of you would have started in Wichita. I was thinking that, too. But since I'm coming from Michigan, I decided instead to stage my chase in Topeka, wait for the 18Z update, and see what kind of clearing develops in the meantime. My reasoning: it'll all translate northeast, bringing decent CAPE into some already impressive shear, and I'd rather drive west or southwest into the sweet zone than wind up having to chase it in the other direction.

If this thread proceeds--which it looks like it won't, but just in case--set me in Topeka.

I did not see the date, and my initial target to await further data would be Great Bend, KS.

PS... I think that these Chase Cases are the perfect combination of fun & educational. One of the best things I've seen on Stormtrack. Thanks to all for the work of putting them together!

Looks like Wichita, KS will be my initial target. Did not see the date, but I recognize the year at least ;-)

For pete's sake let's keep this chase case going for those who didn't see the date. The setup looks fantastic.

I feel excited about today! :) Current obs. show a rather unstable atmosphere already located across OK. This should increase throughout the chase day to the north as the warm front continues to lift northward, and the 12 degree isotherm progresses further towards the north. A rather significant change in direction throughout all levels of the atmosphere, especially from 500/850mb screams tornado potential (supercells). A rather significant CAP is in place to the north, and OK is sitting at a weak CAP environment, however little forcing is present so I would doubt that much activity starts off in and around this area, before the sufficent forcing arrives. I would like to set-up in Medford, OK for this event, and this will give me good access to H35 to go north or south if needed.

OK OK... we can keep it going if you want. I know the other images don't have dates in them and will change the directory in which the files are placed. I will post 18Z info later tonight for those who still want to play along.

Well, I was going to target Norman anyways and wait for more data for 18z....I was really liking a few things in Oklahoma anyways. Good date though, I remember the day quite well ;)

TARGET: Enid, OK....fortunately I did not see the date either as I have just had the chance to look at the site.....thanks for keeping it going!

Dryline to my west..decent moisture and mostly clear skies at my target location....favorable wind profiles and nice sounding data near OKC to boot (CAPE, LCL/LFC relationship, LI, EHI etc)....lets see what happens from here!

Well, I definately have to say that I love the sounding data out of Oklahoma City. I will hang here at home in Springfield, Missouri and as the day progresses I will pack the gear and head towards Tulsa Oklahoma. I will either head down HWY 60 towards Enid via Ponca City, or head towards the OKC area. The northern route is better because it isn't a toll road. I will await the updates. I think it is a no brainer that Central and Northern Oklahoma is where I will chase during this event. Although a broad area of the central plains has alot of great directional shear. It isn't out of the question for me to head up in the Wichita area.

I did not see the date either, but am really impressed with the directional shear with this system. I would probably start out somewhere around Alva, OK based on what I see in the 12Z data. I suppose it could be a cap bust, but if something goes along the front/dryline now located in the eastern panhandles, it could be awesome with this much directional shear.

Yeah I will have to sit this one out....too much pattern recognition on my part . I was stuck in Tulsa and had to work that day but knew something bad was brewing....was tardy on the chase.

Yeah, I must have overlooked the date too. I suppose you would have to be looking for a date to see one! Look at the images and the information folks, lets not spoil it for us who haven't seen the date. Anyway, I am packed up and ready to head towards Ponca City. I am low on cash and don't want to pay any tolls. I will hang in Ponca City until the 18z update. I will have a bite to eat in Ponca City and head towards the Waynoka area to set up shop. May be heading northward into the Medicine lodge/Wichita area from there. I will have to see the 18z update. This is my most travelled route when I chase. More often than not, I usually tred in on HWY 60 through Ponca City towards the Enid/Alva area. Take your time Marc, I will log on in the morning to hopefully get the update. This eery low level cloud deck is indicitative of a ton of LL moisture, may get a nice LLJ streak develop across the area by 18z

18Z Update!!!

For those who haven't read the first page and are coming in late, I mistakenly gave the date away through some stupid errors on my part. I have corrected them for both the 12Z obs and the 18Z obs, so for those of you just joining, this will still be interesting. Here are the observations from 18Z:

18Z Observations:

Surface Observations:
Midwest
High Plains
Central Plains

Visible Satellite Imagery:
Central Plains
High Plains

Radar Imagery:
Central Plains
High Plains

I also added a wayfaring map and have posted the positions of those who are still in the game! Good luck everybody!

A 21Z update will be posted sometime late tomorrow morning and results will be posted tomorrow evening.
