3-28-07 NOW: SD/NE/KS/OK/TX

Nebraska storms

For you northern chasers there is very strong rotation now on radar with a supercell 5-10 miles south of Grant, Nebraska in Perkins County. Storm is moving due north at 25 mph

Pretty good hook on the cell east of claude, TX on all tilts. Must be hailing something fierce, too -- there's a 73db return in the core. It's not even severe warned, which I really don't get.

Beaver County, OK: Still a nice tornado producer. Reports coming in of a large multi-vortex tornado on the ground very recently.

PS: Separate reports of debris on the ground with the tornado.

Four Confirmed Tornadoes So Far East Of Amarillo,tx and REPORTS OF HAIL UP TO SOFTBALL SIZE

Heavy showers and one thunderstorm SW of Lubbock are starting to intensify, they look to be forming into a more linear event, rather than the grouping of supercells in the Pampa and McLean areas. I expect a watch for Midland/Odessa before long, probably within an hour.

Sadly, There has been 1 confirmed fatality with this tornado.

KOCO storm trackers reporting a tornado on the ground south of McLean, TX (remember the McLean, TX tornado about a month ago? :) This tornado is moving north and should be approaching I-40 shortly.

All of the cells in the TX Panhandle should maintain there tornadic potential for the next few hours as long as they can remain discrete. Given the close proximity of the cells to each other over the last few hours I think these cells will definitely remain discrete for some time, possibily moving into NW OK by 9pm. However, 850mb RUC analysis shows backing winds over western OK (out of the SSE) which may inhibit the cells as they move into this environment. Of course, with close proximity to the ongoing convection this may simply be convective effects.

Newest tornado reports via NWS warnings/spotter reports:

NEBRASKA
* Arthur County - 15 miles west of Arthur Nebraska
* Chase County - 9 miles south of Grant Nebraska (multiple tornadoes)

KANSAS
* Sherman County - 7 miles northeast of Goodland Kansas
* Greeley County - 9 miles southwest of Horace Kansas

TEXAS
* Gray County - 16 miles southeast of Pampa Texas (caused damage and injuries earlier)
* Gray County - near Mclean Texas

New supercell entering SW Gray County, probably goin to take an almost identical path to the one producing the tornado at or near McLean right now. This cell is starting wrap up, and hook becoming more defined.
