There are some amazing shots in this thread! Definitely finding some inspiration here. Heres a couple of mine:
Apeture: 22 Shutter: Bulb (46 seconds for this shot) ISO: 640 Focal Length 18MM shot from a tripod on top of my chase mobile in windy conditions Lightning Landscape by W.O.T. Photography, on Flickr
Apeture: 22 Shutter: Bulb (88 Seconds) ISO: 640 Focal Lenth: 41MM Once again, top of car windy conditions Lightning Landscape by W.O.T. Photography, on Flickr
Apeture: 18 Shutter Bulb (4 Seconds) ISO 2500 Focal Length 18MM Shot down the street from my house the last time I went chasing Wall Cloud N Tarrant by W.O.T. Photography, on Flickr
Lessons learned from this outing: I really need a good tripod lol Mine has the camera bag hook but it was so windy that this was making it worse.
Here are my three best. They were taken on August 2 at the same location as Kurt's photos. He and I were positioned just yards apart. Unfortunately, Kurt had to leave after the first line of storms had passed. I stuck around for a second round that swept in around 11:30, and two of the three images here were taken then.
I finally got the equipment in June to shoot lightning - a Canon EOS 60D and 3 lenses (15-30, 18-135, 75-300) along with sinking almost $600 into tripods for my cameras. I finally figured out how to shoot lightning, and had an opportunity Monday night to do so.
Here is my 2 favorites from the evening. I'm still learning though!
Simply spectacular Phil!
You should receive some kind of award for that first one.
That is the kind of shot I dream of getting but believe it will never happen.
Thanks guys! Yep, that one was definitely a keeper I should mention that I lucked out fast with that first one - it was my second time trying shoot some lightning with that building, and I remember it was early in the session that I got that one. The one with the Capitol, though - that one took literally years of waiting and trial and error before finally nailing it.
