My first CG of the year- love that it captures the whole landscape. The storm was stalled to my north- not an easy feat if you know lightning photography in the northeast

It's been a while since I posted, and while it's not the bolt itself, but what can happen when it hits your freshly built home. Currently researching lightning mitigation systems as I watch another prolific lightning producing storm pass overhead with a previously unknown sense of anxiety I never felt before chasing bolts for 15 years. Be safe out there everyone.

I'm gonna nominate this as probably one of my best daytime lightning/structure shots. This was a four-image stack of one-second exposures (f/18 at 24mm) on this incredible supercell in northwest Texas. I'd argue this was one of the better, more fun non-tornado chases I had all season, and was certainly a looker most of the day.

Oddly enough, this year has generally lacked for me in terms of NIGHTTIME lightning, which is my bread-and-butter. But I've had multiple opportunities for daytime sessions, and they've yielded a handful of keepers, a couple that would rank in the top for me in the daytime arena. Still waiting for some more sunset/nighttime opportunities here in Colorado, but I have been more than happy with the unique-for-me daytime chances and have felt like I've definitely made the best of those opportunities.

From two weeks ago- I had panned the camera last moment and almost missed this. Absolutely love he pink bolt on a stark grey background. Shared on and someone called it a mirror bolt. I've heard the term- but not sure that's what is going on here? Hoping someone could help enlighten me a bit

Made the plunge earlier this year and got my first GoPro (13 Hero Black)... I had previously been very animate about not spending several hundred dollars on these cameras when the knock-offs were a third the price and did the job acceptably enough. Well, yesterday in eastern Colorado, I snagged my best lightning still to date off that Go Pro, a full-frame, perfectly centered strike in front of one of the two supercells I chased yesterday. Straight off the camera in 4K (this was a video grab). I wish I had done the GoPro route sooner haha

I've been thinking about maybe getting a GoPro or similar at some point in the future.
I've heard some will even do 1080p / 240fps which might be good for lightning
