• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

Want to share/listen to some tornado stories?

I just checked in on the Discovery web site and one of the new (fun) things planned for it has been added already. It's a collection of stories called in from chasers. I've already phoned in one, my second one about a 23 hour driving spree from NM to MN was lost so I need to call in again.

But anyways, here's the link.
http://dsc.discovery.com/tv/storm-chasers/audio-messages/tornado-stories.html

Anyone can call in to share, you are all invited if you so desire. But even if you do not want to, give it a listen.

Maybe even try to guess how many cups of coffee I drank before I called in!

Hope you are all well,

B

So what's the point of this? To rip story ideas off chasers as well as lowball them for footage? This seems like something geared more towards ireport tards than legitimate chasers.

Just a friendly gesture. An attempt to share, I thought storm chasers would be interested in listening to storm chasing stories. In addition, I wanted to let you all know that you could call in as well, if you wanted to. If you wanted to. I've read all the posts about money and storm chasing property, but I've also read a bunch of posts about your enthusiasm for the unique experience of storm chasing.

I did not want to give off the impression that only certain people were allowed to call in. So to be clear and to reword it: the option of calling in is not exclusive.

No reason to get upset.

I still think it's a neat addition to the Storm Chasers website and that there are some of you who might be interested in listening to the stories. Reed has some up there as well, and there are plenty from people all over.

I hope you enjoy it!

I wasn't upset that you posted the link, just by Discovery for inventing new ways to get material for free. Although on a positive note, the usual players in the chaser marketing world have found this outlet and are using it for the free advertising, so all is not lost.

Why is it wrong for Discovery to use the site to get free material but OK for chasers to use the site for free advertising? Each is simply using whatever tools are at hand to gain professional advantage and save money. I'm no fan of the Discovery channel and I'm all for chasers making as much money as they can from their endeavors, but hey, it's dog eat dog in our capitalistic society and I don't see a whole lot of ethical difference between the two cases here.

I was being sarcastic.

I will say that as a professional video producer, this is exactly what I would do to troll for stories...not that its bad OR that they would do malice with any of this... With the proliferation of video programming, the video monster is very hungry! Producers must try to find new stories...thus the "phone in" experience is a very low cost way for ideas to drop right into their lap.

Don't fool your self about the goodness of it either. As a hot topic and a successful season for the Storm Chasers, DC is making major ad revenue off of the series. Its only natural for them to keep trying find additional ideas which includes blogs and additional sponsorship of chase groups.
