So, where are all...

Funny thing is David, I don't remember seeing you post in the 4/21 fcst thread. You made one post in there, but it wasn't a forecast. It's easy to criticize from the peanut gallery.

I was just concerned moisture would mix out. But of course the stratus remained and the winds backed in the afternoon, enhancing moisture depth and the degree of low level shear.

My biggest concern though was that everything would line out and the cold front would sweep through before anything discrete could get going. All in all, had the timing of the shortwave been different, things could've transpired quite differently yesterday.

But anyhow, this is all hindsight.

I'm glad I didn't chase because I would have busted horribly. Sometimes I wish I *hadn't* posted a target because it makes me look like a total 'noob'. Not that being a 'noob' is a bad thing, but it shows everyone I have some work to do on my skills.

David made this post in jest. Was it a little antagonistic? Sure, but he clarified it, and made it clear that it was not ment to put anyone down. I can understand how some might be a little defensive after reading his first post but after he clarified his meaning? MikeG, saying David has become cocky after "a couple of good chases" is ludicrous. I am willing to bet that David has more chasing years that the 3 of you attacking him combined. He has seen some of the best years and the worst years. What is the point of going on with personal attacks? The mods could deal with it like gentlemen, why can't y'all?

Lets lay personal vendettas aside and chase. We have two mod risks back to back......the last thing some of you guys need to be doing is making low blows from behind the safety of your computer.

Sorry you got offended Mike on a post made in jest. I can't say anything else since your determined to be wronged somehow here. I thought a little lighthearted teasing about being incorrect about the dewpoint situation would be allowed but I forgot how deadly serious and without humor everything here has to be. *sigh*

We saw cows galloping from a tornado, would that amuse you? We thought it was pretty funny.

No I'd first feel bad for them. If they made it, yeah I would find that funny.

I wouldn't call it so much offended, as it was mostly just annoying to be part of the calling out, after a long, mostly busted chase day...over simple forecast posts/thoughts you made before the day. It wasn't helping that no one even said what was stated, then add in the fact when that is brought up it's shrugged off as nitpicking. Now I see we are at, "no humor having". So not too offended, mostly annoyed.

In the end, one should just be happy they were right, without having to create threads over it. Congrats once again. Wish I would have been down there instead of ne CO(where dews had just as bad of a chance at being worthwhile this day...or even worse odds).

Chasing years! That's a fun one to pull out. Everyone loves that one.

To answer David's question...

I was in Beale St., Memphis with my father and my boyfriend having a helluva time at the Rum Boogie Cafe groovin' to James Govan and the Boogie Blues Band, drinking Newcastle Brown Ale. Just got home, in fact. You?

;)

/Fact: Tornadoes never once crossed my mind all weekend - and the footage of them on TWC was just white noise in the background as I was drying my hair getting ready to visit Graceland......there are way, waaaaaay more important things in life than going balls-to-the-wall on each and every single chaseday.

//Fact: I was not a Naysayer and I didn't say you could never get tornadoes with 50 degree Tds. I am glad I was one of the first to question the moisture (I usually am) for Saturday's event as it sparked off a lot of discussion (OK - "discussion") about it and was interesting reading - if only to get the measure of some of the newer FCST posters on ST.

We're all chasers, perhaps we should focus on the common denominator and what brings us together, our love for severe weather. I'm sure David's comment was in jest, and as always folks get offended. Neither side is wrong or right, David stated it was in jest and I'm sure didn't intend for anyone to take it any other way...but yet there are still those offended. Is it unfair that David as a mod could say something like that and not get reprimanded, I dont see it that way, and anyone that does...well, life just isn't fair sometimes, and that's how the cookie crumbles.

With so much bickering going on in the chase community (and yes, it's a small minority), the Kieslings and Horodners, the I'm right and you're wrongers, etc. etc., that's a lot of energy going to waste. Just imagine if all that energy was put toward us as a community focusing on what we have in common, not how we want to do things differently, or how we think we can do it better than someone else etc. The numbers would be growing, but there'd be no need for elite lists, or private groups, or non-compete clauses, or this or that or anything but mutual brotherly love.

Word.

I was a little concerned about moisture after all I grew up in E NE where we typically we need at least 60 to even get severe convection, however I have been on chases in the High Plains a handful of times and I had many experienced high plains chasers preaching to me about how DP's dont need to be 60+. So to answer your question David after a 1600+ mile chase I was in Tulia TX filming a tornado. Honestly I see nothing more entertaining than going "balls-to-the-wall on each and every single chaseday" not even graceland.

Your right, I rarely post in the forecast threads. You probably don't care why, but the reason is because I just don't care to look that deeply into things that far out because in my experience they vary rarely ever happen the way the look 5+ days out. I glance to see if a trough looks to be coming in. If it does I take a look and see if the LLJ looks like it's going to setup. I see that and think ok, I need to look at this again close to that day because it might be something. Pattern recognition.

Oh the other hand, I don't post detailed forecasts the day of for a number of reasons, some of them personal reasons. Yesterday we were up at the station at the forecast center before noon going over every piece of data with a fine tooth comb every hour trying to pinpoint an accessible target. Evidently that pays off.

And yes, I bust horribly sometimes. If you don't bust sometimes then you aren't really trying to forecast. So bad sometimes in fact I want to quit, but I sleep on it and the next day I am ready to go again. Even the experts at SPC bust a forecast sometimes. It's not the end of the world. If I bust, I try and go back and find out why. Did I miss something or did mother nature just not read the chapter in the met book that day? Only by doing that have I gained the experience and understanding to consistently minimize my busts. I just dont tend to get on the forums and cry about it when I do bust, just like I don't forecast on the forums either.

While I made the original post in jest, I never called on anyone specifically but evidently a few took it personally. Curious. Sorry my poor chaser humor offended you. Next time I'll just make racial, political and religious jokes. Reminds me of the time I told the joke about the Indians and the NWS on WXCHASE and got severely chastised for calling them Indians instead of Native Americans.

And yes Mike, the cows made it just fine. In fact they were a couple miles south of the tornado. Seems like cows have more sense about getting out of the way than some of us storm chasers.

I am a big fan of chasing years too Mike. I have noticed over the years that there is little if any correlation between proclaimed years of chasing and how good you are at it. Years chased doesn't hold much weight with me. Neither Mike or I are new to chasing Graham and I think if you used a little more equitable form of measurement Mike and I both could hold our own.
I do apologize for ever calling anybody a name, but I never called David a name. I said "it sounds like you are getting pretty cocky" and starting a thread like this to insinuate that people made comments (that as a matter of fact they never came close to making) comes across to me as cocky given the circumstances.
I do agree that this is stupid and I am definitely spending my next several days on what we share, which is forecasting and chasing.

Nobody was crying about anything David. You started a smart a$$ thread and a couple of people voiced their opinions. After your last post it looks to me like you are the only one "crying on the forums".

Why are you intent on taking personal offense to everything I say Michael?

There is obviously nothing I can say you guys aren't going to get offended at. Well, maybe I can say I like cookies.

I have 12 amber strobe lights on my chase vehicle and useless wx station and even graphics. Why don't you guys bash on that for a while now, the other stuff is getting old.

Was I not supposed to take it personally??? In your last post you were responding to my post.
BTW it only takes a few minutes to post a forecast. In the future you can obviosly do what you want, but I wouldn't expect good results is you are going to take pokes at other people's forecasts if (for one reason or another - I chase for a tv station to BTW) you never have any time to put your own thoughts up for scrutiny.
