And of course, nothing is set in stone. Can always try something new, and if it doesn't fly, then go back, or change it, etc.

It's much easier IMO to let the free speech fly and let the ones who don't enjoy it IGNORE the thread, then to try and please everyone through close moderation. I don't enjoy about 80% of what's posted on this forum, and I ignore that 80%. It's easy, it doesn't ruin the fun for the people who do like it, and the moderators aren't bothered. Those who don't want to play shouldn't be allowed to ruin the game for those who do, IMO.

Plus, this would likely be the only sexual outlet for many ST members.

Anyone noticed the fact that out of 1879 "active" members of ST, only 104 of them bothered to vote?

No, I do not come here to read anything about sex.
Lets keep focused and keep the board clean.

It also presents a liability to the board itself...which I am
sure the owners would want to avoid.

I think we can be a little lax in the bar and grill section, which is not open to the public. Those who can't handle it, can simply stay out of those threads. There should be a line though. I'd say something along the lines of what the FCC allows on primetime TV (Family Guy type stuff should be permissable in Bar and Grill).

The one thing I will ask...if the sex talk is allowed...is to just keep it to it's own thread...not spoil a thread, say about photography, to go down the wrong road.

It's too much to ask, but I could see a semi-professional, but non-chase related section that would still be restricted to strict level of conduct, and B&G be more free (what seem some folks want). But I think some of all this has been tried, so first I'm willing to see what Tim V. does..and then in a few months see if it needs to be changed (again...arrgg).

Which only solidifies my opinion that all non-post accounts should be eliminated.
While I suspect there will not be more than 200 to vote, remember that there is also no "I have no opinion" option, so some may not care which way or the other...hence to voting.

FWIW, a three option poll (extreme one way, extreme the other, and a middle ground) will ALWAYS get the most votes for the middle option. What is interesting is to see which way the numbers on either end are weighted.

And, not to be contrary, but only the real geeks hang out in the fantasy football forums year round. Some people may be more interested in following ST March through July. I don't think that means they need the boot, if they contribute something to the discussion when they are here.

I used to work construction in my younger years since my dad owned a construction business, so I could hang with the best when it came to talking dirty and cussing. As I've gotten older the need to talk dirty and think about sex all the time has waned, as I presume it does for most but not all.

I just do not see how you could create rules and moderate this topic with any kind of effectiveness - even if it's in a private area of the forum. Members are going to get out of control and infractions and suspensions will fly (like the proverbial fur) as soon as it's allowed.

I voted to keep it away from the board totally as I think Stormtrack projects a professional image and do not want to see our image compromised.

The choice is obvious: keep ST going year-round with off-topic stuff, or opt for the "pro" image and keep it weather-only. However the latter will mean the board will be dead for the majority of a given year. I'm cool with either scenario, but IMO trying to merge the two is a FAIL.

I can be "professional" if that's what the setting requires; I cut-up in here and speak my mind because, thus far, the forum has been designed to where that's acceptable. I push the limit to find out exactly where the limits are. As far as a "pro" style forum, I can do that as well. However, if ST should decide to become "business-only", I think non-post accounts for several months at a time would be acceptable, as you can only talk so much about the weather.

I have been trying to think of a polite way to say this, however I cannot so here is.

Shut the heck up. All I have seen here this last week is gripe, and gripe. Grow the heck up, live with the rules that have been in place for years. If you cannot do that, then go elsewhere.
This board has operated for years as weather only. I have never seen too much of a dead area, there is winter weather that people discuse. And on top of that there is still the education topics. no matter how long you have been chasing there is always new things to learn.
Lets get this forum back where it needs to be without making Tim or the mods insane.
Just my 2 cents.

David...we're past all the fighting....most of us have decide to work toward a common goal. As Tim V. said, you can't please everyone. So kinda late on the first sentence. Please join the rest of us toward constructive solutions.

It seems ST is having a mid-life crisis...lol

It is trying to merge the "old school" style of what ST used to be and many of us "old fogies" grew up on and what ST has become with all the young blood that has come in with a whole new style of chasing and internet behavior. Thats where the clashes come in. Not sure how or even if they can be merged.

I am an adult so sexual content doesnt offend me if its seperate just dont intermingle it in a wx thread. But I also understand we have younger posters or people with certain religious convictions that it might offend. This is afterall a chasing forum and most of it should revolve around wx but like Shane has said and I have said many times you can only post so much about wx. Especially in the down months. Most of us dont chase blizzards so the cold months are long and boring except for editing and watching video or getting our vehicles ready for the next season so we come here to stay in touch with other chasers and blow off some steam and shoot the bull.

I agree, though not so much from a standpoint of sexuality entering a thread as sticking to the topic rather than derailing it. Seems to me, as I consider the drama of the past couple of weeks, that flame wars easily spin off of comments that aren't really germane to the post at hand.

Maybe I'm being idealistic, since threads tend to take on their own life and that's not necessarily a bad thing, but staying relevant to the topic is just plain courtesy toward the thread's initiator and other posters.
