How often it is said that the true measure of a man is not in what he did, but how he is remembered. If this is the case, then Eric's impact during his short life here was tremendous and gentle. May God bless him, his family and friends.

I had been checking this thread just about every other day or even every day but since my sisters passing, I had not really checked in so this is such a surprise to me.

Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

We will miss you Eric.

I never met Eric in person, but he kindly offered me some advice to improve the readability and appearance of my chasing entries online. I checked in on this thread every so often and hoped for the best. I was dismayed to see he wasn't going to recover, and I offer my condolences to the family.

Eric Fletch, will be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out for his family as they grieve the loss of a husband, father, and friend. My thoughts and prayers for all the chaser friends he has as we ponder the moments we had chasing and getting to know Eric. He was a great and positive contributor to the chaser community.

I chased with Eric a few times in May of 2006... He was a great person and possessed a true passion for the atmosphere. My condolences go out to his family and friends. Rest in peace, Eric. You may be gone, but you'll never be forgotten.

I only knew Eric from his posts in the forum where he shared his knowledge and passions about the atmosphere, astronomy, and weather. He'll be deeply missed, and my condolences go out to his family and friends.

New message from Eric's wife:

This morning I received a phone call from the Hospice House letting me know they were not able to get a blood pressure and it would only be a matter of time. I hurried to get there as soon as I could and Eric took his last breath as soon as I arrived. The staff at Hospice House was so very supportive and Eric had been treated with respect and dignity throughout the time he was there.

At the moment I am overwhelmed and amazed by the outpouring of love and support from friends, family, and the community of stormchasers, eclipse-watchers, and star-gazers with whom Eric spent a good deal of his time. A fellow stormchaser, whom he had never met in person, came by last night to share photos and spent time talking with him. I am certain he would be comforted knowing that I was being taken care of and for this I am very thankful.

I wanted to share the notice here in the event anyone would want to attend the funeral. I will also include the Louis Memorial Chapel website where you can get more specific information, address, directions, etc.

Last year was my first year chasing. I chased with Eric and James Seitz and once alone with Eric. We found tornadoes and busted chases together. Its hard to fathom that he is no more. It feels like as if it is yesterday when I went to his house and went for chase. I still remember him getting scared when I was flirting with the fuel gauge on a highway while chasing since he didn't like taking risks and didn't want to get stranded on the highway. Never imagined that would be my last chase with him.

May his soul rest in peace.

With heavy heart, :(

Uday Verma.

It is sad to hear, however as others have said, it was something to expect.
I chased with Eric in May of 06, but never really spent much time talking with him. Maybe now I will start doing such.
I will continue to keep his family in prayer.
rest in peace Eric.
