I had met Eric and chatted with him many times. Eric was very passionate about astronomy and weather. He was the quintessential eccentric chaser and person, like many of us who chase.

I often thought of him as the mad scientist type. I mean not many of the people among us ( current company excluded ) would drive to Texas to see a thunderstorm or fly to Africa to see an eclipse. His passion for life and nature was profound by any measure. :)

Not much else to say. Like nature herself life is precious and frail. Take care Eric.

I am very sad to hear this news, My condolences go to the family, even though i never met Eric, he was obviously an awesome guy, and i can tell he will be greatly missed

This is such terribly sad news. My thoughts go out to Eric's family, and I hope they find some comfort in the days ahead. We'll be thinking of him this spring.

Working in Daytona Beach with intermittent wifi, I missed the announcement of Eric's passing. While I'm relieved that he didn't have to linger for a length of time in that condition, I feel deeply for his wife, family and those who had come to know him in person.

I was very saddened to hear the news yesterday morning while I was at work. I only met Eric once, and that was when I held my end of the chase year party at my parents house last August. He was a very nice gentleman and I enjoyed having him there. He talked about going to China a couple times for solar eclipses and whatnot, I just found it very interesting. Im very sad to know that this was the one and only time that I would ever see or talk to him. My thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family, he will be missed by many! I have included a group photo from the party. Eric is standing to the right of me, 5th one in from the right. Wish I could make it to the funeral, but I have to work until 3 PM, and can not call in at this point, but he will be in my thoughts through the day today.

Eric was a great person and Friend. It was a pleasure to meet him and chase with him. Sue Ellen and his family are in my prayers. Good Bye Eric... I will miss you but happy the suffering is over for you.

I'm glad I had the opportunity to talk with Eric via emails, on the phone a couple times and meet him at Randy's party. Very kind, generous and full of knowledge.

Another big loss from the chasing community..

Rest in Peace, Eric.

Rest in peace Eric...my heartfelt sympathies for Sue Ellen and the family. He was a great guy and one I really enjoyed chasing with. Will look up to the sky with a smile
and think of Eric and his love of reading the sky.

So very sorry to hear of Eric's passing. May he rest in peace and may his loved ones be comforted that he is no longer confined to being in a coma.

Just went back and looked at old PMs from Eric. I am bad about getting rid of old PMs, but in this case I'm glad I didn't so I could go back and look at them. We talked about meeting sometime but unfortunately were never able to. RIP, Eric.

My condolences go out to his family and friends. I am saddened by the news. John's post made me glance at my PM Inbox, and turns out I have exchanged PM's as well with him as well -- when I was in a mental crisis in 2007, he was one of those telling me not to give up. I didn't, I graduated in 2008, am now aiming even higher. RIP, Eric.

Could someone please tell me the proper way to pronounce Eric's last name? I never met him and have never heard his name actually said. Thanks in advance.
