• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

    I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

    For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

    From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

Chase vehicle...what's yours for 2005?

Ya know, NONE of these vehicles can hold a candle to the heroic chasemobiles of old. Famouns cars: "Roachmobile," "Meatwagon," and others shall go down in history as the greatest chase vehicles of all time! :)

I've been using my '01 Monte Carlo SS for the past two seasons. It's fairly comfortable and gets awesome gas mileage (28 + mpg)! However, the traction control doesn't fair well when it comes to muddy back roads. Since my wife's van is about "done", and she has expressed interest in taking the Monte, she'll be taking it and I'm trading her van in for a new diesel truck. Granted, a little pricey, but, it makes for an excellent investment as it'll go well into the six figure mileage range (400k +), and should get 20 + mpg after a few mods. I use Whelen Dual Talon amber LED dash / deck lights. They're clear when off, but are very bright when on, and take very little power. I'll be adding a traffic director as well. 911EP makes a nice one, an LED unit. Very low profile, very effective though.

One in the back for live internet weatherstation information,and operate the sat tracking software. The other two laptops run software for the two lightning detectors. One det. mon. only cloud to ground strikes, The other all forms of lightning. The project called "ARCLIGHT" studies the theory that lightning changes feq. before tornados or severe events. I am so far inclined to agree. The hope being to be able to use this information to alert to this type of weather. Downside is that not all storms seem to have this lightning effect.
This is only th 4th year with 6 to go.
Radios include Local,State,Federal OES. CB just for fun,Several scanners.
A ham operator most of the time with their own equipment. Cell phones from one to several depending on the day.
Lightning includes red night vision lightning,grund effect lighting so we are less likely to fall while not looking at our feet but at mother nature.Enough yellow lights to keep others from running over us "we hope".

Tom, Sound like an interesting theory. Where can I get more information and read some of your research papers? I looked on your website and couldn't find anything referencing "ARCLIGHT".

Yes,I took the Arclight link off the web-site. Not much Information to pass on. Lightning detectors that use this type of info are sold by stormwise.com . Boltek systems show you where the lightning is fvrom you. But the stormwise system gives range and will tell you if the storm is severe,dropping hail,or even a tornado. Also a system call thor is sold to warn of lightning. But not a storm chaser item I think. I am sitting in the lab replying to this messaqge. mY WIFE and chase partner took pix of the inside and I will post them maybe later today.

As far as I know no papers have been done on this research yet. That is not my job, I do only the operations Part.

Just my trusty Saturn ION. Nothing fancy...What's not in the picture is the laptop on the seat, the GPS in the back window, and a couple radio amplifiers depending on how much 'punch' I need for reporting.

Of course..I dont go plains chasing...wife wont let me :) Something about two small kids, me not being "good enough" and her not wanting me to be the second chaser victim.
