First signs of initiation are occurring in SW Kansas and southwest of AMA. An MD (#710) was issued by the SPC regarding this area for possible watch, but it appears it will be a severe thunderstorm versus a tornado watch. In any event, we are going to come in from the west on highway 50 to have a look see at the cell in Stanton county Kansas, which now has a severe thunderstorm warning on it. There are several cumulus towers trying to build upwards in Prowers county Colorado, so that's always a good sign. Hopefully I'll get a nice birthday present today and will see something worthwhile.

A classic hook is located SSE of Oakley just east of U.S. 83.

Nice hook on the Supercell entering Gove County KS. Velocity returns are not that impressive, though the last couple of scans are, and the storms looks as if it has been strengthening in the last couple of Radar Scans.

I just saw that on GR2AE Mike. It kind of hurts because we dropped south to try and make a play on the storm behind it that Vortex 2 was all over, and then the cell you just mentioned spins up into a classic Supercell with a text book hook echo. We were actually on that storm when it was further west by Wallace and gave up on it to try and make a play on the one behind it. Seems like everything I've tried today has gone south. There's always tomorrow I suppose.

I'll bet Vortex 2 collected some excellent data on the western cell they chased as it has multiple reports of tornado touchdowns starting out by Towner, Colorado. We actually saw a tornado on the ground from roughly 10 miles away for probably 10 minutes when it first went tornadic shortly after the Towner, Colorado report.

TWC was streaming live tornado video. Love Mike Bettes' quote, "Once you see a tornado, you gotta see more"

Two storms in northwestern Kansas. The more northerly and eastern one (north north east of Scott City) still has a nice hook.
