Interesting...New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin on Sunday called "Gustav" the "Storm of the Century" and the "Mother of all storms". LOL. Is this guy for real? I wonder what century he thinks Katrina occurred. Maybe he meant "storm of the century for this year"? It seems to me like "Gustav" is going to be quite less damaging than Katrina was...at least I hope.

Your thoughts on his comments?

Seriously...of course we are wishing everyone in the affected areas only the best and we hope for no fatalities or injuries.

Well, I wouldn't call it the storm of the century, but it definitely poses a threat to New Orleans. Whether or not it will cause more damage than Katrina remains to be seen. I still feel Gustav will make landfall east of the projected path, possibly putting the NE eyewall over parts of New Orleans. This is not necessarily based on science as much as gut instinct, but it seems like the deep convection that keeps blowing up on the western side of the center of circulation is acting to keep it just to the right of the forecast track. Also, latest IR scans are showing another burst of convection and a more eye-ish looking feature now showing up near the center of circulation.

Appears a little more symmetric on the last IR image with a ring of convection and cold cloud tops now surrounding the center in a more typical fashion. The eye kinda takes a westward jog on the loop in the last couple of frames also.

I thought it interesting that with Gustav on the SE coast we have this impressive structure next to Alaska opposite the mainland.

Alas to my eye any "westward jog" is so far just a wobble reflecting that the center of storm rotation is offset a bit from what has become visible as the little eye. He's picked a heck of a time to try to get more organized with a closed eyewall, etc. :(

Boy, Im just sitting here trying to figure out just how that eyewall is going to make it so much further to the west. Im no hurricane expert, but it seems it should have already begun its westward track, or atleast more to the NW.

To make matters EVEN better, I have been watching CNN for about the past 30 minutes, and I can't remember the anchor's name, but I promise you he just reiterated......THIS IS NOT A NEW ORLEANS STORM, lol. But hey, hes obviously more of an expert than I am.

WEST WOBBLE?

I think Nagan at the time of his mammoth storm comment was going by the info on the storm last night about 9pm when the thing was looking like a 155 beast. Im sure the comments are meant to put a little "get your a$$ to moving as well jsut to be sure. I have been thinking since last Thursday this thing would make landfall near Cameron LA but I didnt expect the hit to Cuba and the slightly further east motion it took over the Gulf. Now howeer it seems a westward wobble is indeed occuring. I am thinking persons from Marsh Island over to Cameron need to be on their toes. In fact if I were in Port Arthur id be on my toes as well. It seems NHS wants to put landfall near Chauvin area. It amazs me how much water these areas have. This is what this area was made for Geologically however. Swamps and wetlands help protect these areas to an extent. Thats why they arent ideal to build on (but thats a whole other debate). I was curious as to how the convection firing on the NW quadrant will cause the storm to wobble West or are we jsut seeing the whole eyewall getting its act back together....or both...?

Odd....CNN keeps passing along data saying they expect a Noon-4PM landfall...... Seems like a westward wobble per my latest radar frames. Anyone else see this? or am I hallucinating....
