  • After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

This is my first post on Stormtrack. I chase in North Carolina and here is a lightning shot I captured this year that I would rate among my best so far:

This was in Wendell, NC on 7-20-2010.

Not my best ever, but my best Year-to-date:

Kinda sad, I know, but hey...for not being able to travel to Florida (for storm reasons) or the plains this year, I'm happy with it.

I posted my all-time favorite here some time ago, but thought I would put up a couple from this season. This one is from Stinnett, TX, June 12:

This one is one of my favorites just because it occurred in such an unusual circumstance - along the leading edge of a snowstorm, west of Santa Fe, NM on March 14:

The lightning was associated with an intense burst of snow and graupel along the leading edge of the storm; eventually it snowed about 7 inches.

Couple of my favorites:
Shot this one near Hugo, CO in 2006.

Shot this one a couple weeks ago near Kit Carson, CO

And I have to post one from my job on the ship.....this one was taken in 2006 off of Chicago.

First I want to give compliments to all the excellent lightning-photograph takers in this topic ! I know a bit of luck is necessary, but if you weren't at the right place on the right time.....
Compared to some lightning-images, my best is only just nice:

It was taken during the aftermath of a stormchase on 16 july 2003 just outside Lelystad, near Lake IJsselmeer in The Netherlands. The film I used was good old Kodachrome-64 slide film.
All the three flashes occured within one second. The shutter was open for 20 seconds, but I put my hand before the lens just after the lightning-discharge, because I didn't want sheet-lightning or other flashes to spoil the photograph.

April 4th 2010 at a truck stop off I-74 in LeRoy, IL.

I'm a rule breaker; here's a second one that I couldn't decide between taken July 17th looking east into Indiana.
