Got this on September 1st. Finally got a nice close bolt! with 4 bonus ones! lol. Also theres a powerflash in the center of the image, it was crazy to watch the explosion and get that adrenaline rush and then waiting for it to show up on the LCD and you know there's no way it's exposed correctly. Then it pops up and its perfect lol, great feeling after that.

Starting to understand a little more on proper RAW capture and processing (I think). Not the best context, but my best digital photo with the most crisp lines. The tripod used was tiny (about 8" tall) and very shaky...so kind surprised it came out this good.

Know this is for the "best" shot, but at the moment, this is the best I have for my new Rebel XS. Got lucky on way home from work and snagged a couple, seem to be out of focus. Hope you guys can give me some feedback on this.

Camera Setup:
F Stop 3.5
25 sec. Exp.
100 ISO
0 Step
18 mm focal
Pattern metering
Compulsary flash

Thanks in advance!

Your exposure seems to be pretty good. What kind of lens are you using? Not all lenses have an infinity marker on it. I had that issue back in 2006 while shooting lightning in KS using a kit lens. If there's no marker on your lens (a sideways 8), you'll probably just need to look through your viewfinder and turn the focus ring and try to focus on a distant light object until it becomes clear. That was the only work around I had come up with. You could also try adding an "unsharp mask" in Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop, but adding too much can create a halo effect.

I'm assuming you're using a tripod and a remote shutter release?

Yes maam on the tripod. Was using a 2 sec. delay when the shutter button was pressed to eliminate shake. I hope to use "bulb" soon just as soon as I pick up a release.

Just the ole 18-55 IS kit lens here. Played with it some focusing on distant street lights before venturing out into the dark countryside hoping for clarity. As you can see, that idea didn't work.

Looks like another power flash on the left as well in that shot!

I'm French, and I've taken in my country some thunderstorm shoots (I try, I'm an amator), so this is one of my best photo. ;)

This is a blast due to a lightning impact near my position, as you can see I don't have a good camera, but I hope you will like it...

and... Joyeux Noël et Joyeuse fêtes à tous !! :)
