Hello.

Estonian thunderstorm season got an early start this year as on 2nd of February, there was one in extreme western Estonia. Estonia was hit by an middle latitude storm at the same time(well, it brought some damage so some areas, raised sea levels a bit in Haapsalu etc). Then there came thunder and lightning. As far as I have heard, thunder was sighted at our coastal areas and islands. Media reports that some people were even woken up by the thunder who then saw lightning flashes. Well, on Saturday morning, I looked on a sounding and I had a feeling that something was wrong with the weather as I was concerned about Showalter index and Total Totals Index. I however, dismissed it as SDS trying to make me crazy again like it has usually happened with me in early spring months. Mets are saying here that this is extremely rare event. For example in Tartu, during past 50 years, there have been only 6 thunderstorms in January. Well, winter has been blazingly warm this year, as even right now, as I type this posting, the air temperature is 35,1 degrees Fahrenheit.

How is the situation with thunderstorms in your area? Here it is months ahead of schedule.
