Is there anyone producing May 25 yet? If not, I would be happy to give it a shot. I am fairly new, though, at video production and would really like to work with someone more experienced and who has decent video editing equipment. To my knowledge, Quintin and I have the only chaser video of the Parkersburg storm before it hit the town.

There is also this cellphone video that was shot by Parkersburg volunteer firefighters.

I know the guys names who shot it and could get ahold of them to use it. Is anyone willing to help out who lives somewhat close to Des Moines?

June 7th chapter - SO2008

***Tony - do you have the usage release forms ready for the contributors to complete so we can start working with submissions?*** Nothing mentioned on the producers board.

Hi Everyone,
Please send data DVD AVI format video and still, radar grabs, locations, times, etc. to:

Same here for June 7th....DVD in .avi format (please do not pre-edit video but ok to cut to a "best of" for the day) or you can send a dup of your file onto a mini dv tape (down convert HD tapes first please to SD in a 4:3 format).

For stills, at least 720x480 and 300 dpi resolution.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE include times and locations where the video/stills were shot from. No GPS logs but GoogleEarth maps are fine.

I really need material from the WI torns that day. If you know of a video/still source, please let me know so I can contact the owner. Scott W??

Considering this was a historic outbreak because it featured a EF5 tornado I think it needs to be on the DvD. Wish I could help you out but I can't so good luck and I hope you find the help you need so we can get this chapter on the DvD.

Historic as it may be event-wise, it wasn't chased by very many, and that's why it hasn't received the 'attention' Greensburg did.

I know but I still think it should be on the DvD just because it was historic and because it was a EF5 tornado. I think any event with a EF5 tornado that causes alot of damage should be the biggest priority for the DvD but that is just my oppiniun. BMcmillan has the footage for the chapter but he needs help with it. I wish I could help but I can't so I realy hope someone will step up and help him out.

Just because a tornado is historic, EF5 or no, does not necessarily mean it must automatically be on a DVD. You can't make a movie without film. Thus, you can't make a storm chasing DVD about an event when no footage exists.

It's similar to why you rarely hear about the Mulhall tornado from 5/3/1999 even though some data shows that that tornado might actually have been bigger (wider) than the Moore tornado and the fact that it occurred at night. Hardly anyone chased it.

If there's enough usable footage and someone is available to produce the chapter, I say go for it. Just remember the size/coverage of the chapter is going to be directly proportional to the amount of chaser video that is available.

FYI- the youtube video is not all our footage. It is just what a local tv station (KCCI) decided to post. Here is more video from Quintin's original storm report.

http://s278.photobucket.com/albums/kk91/qerdman/?action=view&current=Parkersburg1.flv

I know our video did not show much of the wedge, and more of its initial formation and aftermath. However, if you look at time 1:36 on the clip posted above, we film the tornado as it is entering Parkersburg. (you can see the town to the left in the shot)

I also noticed in the reports section other chasers with video (Kurt Hulst, Jerry Funfsinn to name a few) so we were not the only chasers out.

I am sure if we communicate with people I can get enough video. I just need someone to help with the producing/ editing work so we can develop a professional product. Thoughts, suggestions?

Unless things have changed, looks like the SO 2008 project has less than a day to find five chapter producers, or it's all over. Considering two of the five events still needing a producer are May 23/24 (two of the biggest days of the year) I'd say the interest needed to pull off such a mammoth project just isn't there anymore. Hats off to everyone who's stepped up and tried to get this thing off the ground...just looks like there isn't enough overall interest this time around. I have to admit, a month ago I thought the last job where volunteers would be lacking would be Chapter Producer.

Again, unless things have changed that I'm unaware of.

You could help out and take a chapter. I am sure they would apreciate that.
