Most frequently consumed restaurant food while storm storm chasing?

I agree re: Subway. I can get a healthful meal (minus the sodium) for ~$5.50 after tax since I always do the $5 footlong. It's pretty easy to customize with different sauces and toppings (which may or may not revoke the "healthful food" description), and it's easy to save half the sub to eat a couple hours later. If Subway isn't available, or if I'm not in the mood for a sub, my second choice is usually Arby's. I'll do Quiznos too, but there are far fewer locations compared to Subway, and I usually end up spending a buck or two more there. I'll throw in a McD too and get a grilled chicken select sandwich. As Dan R. pointed out, these sandwiches are actually pretty decent (minus the times I get super wilty lettuce) for a fast food joint.

I'm usually minimal with my vegetables out of personal preference, but I can't get enough spinach on my 5$ footlong. The reason I mention this is due to the fact that when I started chasing, Subway had the option of carrot... over time it gradually disappeared due to a "lack of demand". All carrot afficionadoes, such as myself, need to shake that corporate birdcage until they supply my/our specific health desires!

But thats a small headache when faced with the typical fast food options, btw.. to hell with the Guacamole footlong of the month.

Subway all the way. I'd rather have a sub with tons of energy-giving veggies and a baked lays than any greasy crap option anywhere else. Even the "salads" from places like Wendys are hit or miss, and the ones of size have meat (I'm a vegetarian.) --- Subway being so popular is a godsend. Other than that, it's packing healthy snacks, or you can still cross your fingers for string cheese, pretzels or nuts from a gas station... and if you're lucky, they might have cut veggies or fresh fruit.

While not exactly a restuarant, a great place to stop in for quick munchies is Quick Trip (QT) convenience stores. Especially prevalent across Kansas, these are very clean stores with efficient, friendly workers that offer a good variety. Generous soft drink fountains plus a plentiful selection of canned and bottled drinks. Delicious microwave burritoes. Tempting snacks such as pork rinds. Best of all is their bountiful candy selection such as big boxes of Mike and Ike's, Hot Tamales and even Lemonheads.

I also end up at Subway very often. That and Arby's are my two most favorite places to dine. I absolutely refuse to eat McDonalds, chasing or not, unless it is a matter of not eating at all over the next several hours. I rarely leave a McDonalds feeling decent about what I had just eaten.

Subway tends to get the agreement of everyone in the car, and is usually open at 9:30 PM when you're rolling through any decent sized town after a chase. McDonald's still seems to be the lunchtime winner when it comes to agreement, usually because it's a fast grab and go.

When I'm over, our vagrant chasing pattern leads me to make most of the ridiculous hauls and this has an unfortunate impact on my diet. I actually tend to lose weight when I come to the states (combination of stomach upset from change of diet/different bacteria and running on empty where food can be hard to come by leading to skipped meals). I find I tend to eat alot of Subway, McDonalds (you guys have no idea how bad McDonalds can be, come try it in Australia) and Quiznos if I can find it (and I will actually target slightly away from I want to go to a Quiznos, damn stuff is just so tasty). The biggest problem tends to be McDonalds being open later than either Subway or Quiznos, and rarely has stomach upset issues, which means it is consumed more often. Still its not too bad if you don't go nuts on the greasy.

Have had bad experiences at Arby's, Pizza related, KFC (ugh...thats one thing where its better in Australia) so steer clear of them. Burgerking is also frequented but for some reason we have found it to be a bit of a stomach upset risk, not entirely sure why. We try to offset our bad evening/arvo eating habits with a healthy/solid breakfast, but all to often the timing of chasing (US chasing is so civilised for those who wake late but is horrid for meal times) means we have two meals a day. And thats when we turn to Walmart to provide fruit (Strawberries, Bananas etc. So cheap!), and junk to fill the deficit.

Same here. I try to stay away from greasy foods such as MD, BK and even the fried deliciousness of Alsup's burritos so Subway usually wins out. Just the fact that a foot long sub can usually give you two meals if you save the other half for a few hours down the road waiting on initiation.

Subway, seems to be all too familiar, and the wait can be really bad. Others seems to be McD & KFC, and late night pizza(usually the only thing left to eat at midnight +.
Alsup's burrito's sound nice, never done that, but like the idea;)

Bridget has a bad stomach, so we pretty much have a food routine for every day, every situation. Chases are 99.9% MD's for lunch (because it's quick) and Subway for dinner, if we can find one late. She usually gets the Selects and I'll get a 20-piece nugget, simply because I can eat it while driving. If we have the time to sit down, I'll get 2-3 reg hamburgers (no fries). At Subway, I usually get a dry ham-n-cheese 6-inch with double meat/cheese.

Personally, when I'm in chase mode, nothing really matters to me except the storms and I could go all chase without eating. But because Bridget needs a reg diet and certain foods, we almost always stick to that routine. When I was single and it was just us guys in the car, we'd eat anything, as all of us have iron stomachs. I absolutely LOVE Alsup's burritos, because I ate those things every day for years in HS from our local convenient store (Karry-out-Korner). Imagine my delight when learning the infamous "Alsup's burrito" was the same mass-produced synthetic garbage I ate for lunch every day from 1987-1990. Delicious.

Subway for lunch; Applebee's for dinner...love it!

Also, I always start the day with a cold bottle of Coke and a 4-bar Twix...I'm already looking forward to next year's trip!
