• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

Do the best stormchasers have a "psychic" ability to find tornadoes?

Here are my thoughts on this thread:

Okay, I'll admit that's funny! But now let's move back on topic, please. While a little humor is fine, this thread has generated some serious and insightful discussion that should not be derailed. Thank you.

Thank you, Karen. I believe that intuition is knowing without knowing, seeing without seeing. This goes for weather forecasting as well as every other aspect of life. Some people may call this "psychic" ability, some may call it a "sixth sense". Either way, intuition or whatever one might wish to call it frequently flies in the face of data/logic/interpretation based on past experience. When intuition or that "still small voice within" speaks and we argue with it through data-driven logic, we may find ourselves losing out on key opportunities that we otherwise might have experienced.

Or you can agree with it and still lose out on key opportunities because you ignored the signs and data in front of you... I wouldn't consider it something of value unless you've been doing this a LOOONNNGGG time.

Even intuition requires background information, and the ability to understand it. It involves also reading less than obvious information...and processing it in the background. Human beings do that when they allow themselves, and it opens things up.

I like that "still small voice within" notion. If that voice is informed...it can speak to power.

When you can chase every single set up on your parent's money of course you are going to bag more than a few more than your blue-collared chaser will. I could sit in Oklahoma City all spring and probably see quite a few tornadoes. Why? Not because I am psychic, but because that is a statistical hot spot. It is all about recognition. Recognizing patterns, recognizing boundaries, recognizing storm structure. A lot of times the people who score usually bounce storm to storm until they get on one that looks "good." That is where skill comes in. The only psychic aspects of chasing are some of the new high resolution models that will futurecast where storms will blow up.... and even those are no where near 100% reliable.

I actually had a couple others in mind, but if the shoe fits. It is one thing to go around chasing all the time.... but some of these people like to look down on others who weren't blessed with a wealthy family. My bad for having three jobs to make ends meet. Their passion obviously >>>>> mine :)
