That is such a nice vehicle, when I first saw it a few months ago I regretted buying an Expedition back in Nov 08 - but I still love it anyways

Think of how much $$$ you would be spending on gas! The Toyota 4runner gets over 20 mpg and is more than equipped for any kind of dirt!

I have been watching the development of this truck for some time. My personal opinion is it is the perfect factory built chase truck due to the fact many of the off-road gear is built for faster speed usage rather than the useless (for chasing) rock crawling type off-road that just about every other off-roader is designed for.
I'd go for the smaller 5.3L engine though...because that engine is better than the Toyota's (although I don't think it has as much power either). But it is MORE than adequate for chase duty. Of course, if you are gonna thrown down $45,000 or more on a truck...gas cost is the last worry you have. In fact I like it for chasing, kayaking, geocaching, biking, and all those other outdoor activities and photography outings that were not done due to limited access. In fact, this is the platform I would start with for my (all theory right now) Antarctica crossing.
The only downside...is if you want a full SUV type truck...SVT has no plans for an Expedition version.

The upcoming Ford Raptor due out in 2009 as a 2010 is about as close as you can come to a factory built truck designed specifically for extreme storm chasing.
