CHASE CASE 1

Waiting for data in North Platte. My impulse is to bolt for South Dakota, but until I can look at surface obs, upper air maps, soundings, and satellite, I don't really know what I'm bolting to and what I'm bolting from.

YAWN! Good Morning all! After only getting 2 hours from getting in around 4 AM to North Platte, Im still targeting the Triple Point so I will head north a little bit to Valentine. Time now is 6:30, so that will put me into Valentine around 9:00 AM. Good Luck everyone! See some of you out there!

Will join his chase partner Steve Polley in Thedford, NE and await more data. Road options are good here. I am concerned about any on-going convection in South Dakota and the mdt risk area....I am liking western NE at this point if the convection cannot clear South Dakota in time to allow the atmosphere to sufficiently destabilize.

Well, assuming I left on 80 from Chicago like I said I was going to in my last post, although I didn't update my status, I probably would have stopped near Des Moines for the night as that's usually about where I catch my nap when heading to the plains the day before an event.

Based on your upper air charts there, I'd like to be in southwest SD where the trough is going to eject later in the day. Shear should be best here, and I think this is the more sure play despite the possibility of more isolated storms further south along the dryline. I'm gonna have to really haul ass down 80, up 380 to 90 west. I'd like to try and make it all the way to Rapid City. That's a 9 hour drive or so from Des Moines with stops for gas, so if this is an afternoon show I'm probably going to miss it. I've also never chased SD, but I imagine the terrain near the Badlands and Black Hills is difficult to work around.

All this waiting for the maps is getting on my nerves. With South Dakota in the crosshairs, I'm going to mosey up to Thedford. That should buy me an hour while still keeping the Nebraska option open.

Got in this late and have only read the first post. Put me in Woodward, OK.

*THERE WILL BE A SUPPLEMENTAL UPDATE AT 15Z FOR MD'S AND INFO

SOME OF YOU MAY FEEL THAT YOU HAVE JUMPED IN LATE. NO WORRIES, I JUST POSTED THE 0Z DATA LAST EVENING, SO JUMP IN AS IF YOU FOLLOWED THAT DATA AND GO WITH THE 12Z. I HAVE BEEN RESERVED IN DUMPING DATA FOR THAT VERY REASON. THE ORIGINAL DATA WAS 1-2 DAYS OUT TO GIVE EVERYONE A CHANCE TO JUMP IN. GOOD LUCK!

EDIT: I POSTED THE 12Z SOUNDINGS WHICH DON'T DO A WHOLE HECK OF ALOT OF GOOD, SO THERE WILL BE AN 18Z SOUNDING DATA RELEASE LATER. TODAY I PLAN ON POSTING A 15Z UPDATE LATER THIS EVENING, AND THE 18Z SOUNDINGS TONIGHT WITH ANY MD'S, WATCHES, OR ANY SPC INFO.

Alright, based on the surface charts, the triple point is already in south central SD. I'm going to try and play that, so Rapid City is way too far it appears. I'll probably still head up 90 into SD and get past that morning convection and then hold short somewhere near Mitchell assuming the main show hasn't started by the time I get there.
