06/09/05 TALK: High Plains

Since people are curious about the Graham County/ Hill City storm with the many torndo reports. I spoke to Simon over the phone just after one of the tornadoes, and he said it was a cone, then a large stovepipe, and then roped out...something like that. He also indicated it looked violent. This was just south of Hill City.

TVS on the DDC storm now...lowest tilt couplet messed up due to range folding.

UPDATE=can see velocities at the lowest tilts clearly now...appears to be two areas of enhanced rotation...rotation is alright, not screaming at all.

LOL... it just wouldn't be a storm day this year without a tornado in Wisconsin...

* AT 641 PM CDT...TRAINED WEATHER SPOTTERS REPORTED A WATERSPOUT 7
MILES SOUTHEAST OF OSHKOSH...MOVING NORTHEAST AT 20 MPH.

That storm near Ellis, KS, is very interesting. The velocity couplet continues on north of I-70; however the storm has backbuilt a bit and there is now another hook echo south of I-70. No rotation indicated in velocity tilts, though.

Sitting at super 8 in Hayes KS eating cheetos after a very stressful day of chasing. Was on the Hills City storm from sw of Hill City to Stockton. My best day ever. I sat in one spot and shot stills and video of the whole life of the tornado there. It was a strong stovepipe to wedge with a new wall cloud going to the sfc north of it with the storm taking on a bit of a Columbus 98 look(sort of). It was just awesome. I let it move towards me to probably 1 mile sw when hail got too big. Then not long after going east I ran into one lane road construction....I shht you not. It was just sw of this location and the idiots had us all stopped. That was a lot stressful. The lead chaser looked to be giving them an earfull in the rain. I mean it had been tor warned forever, what were they thinking? Something needs to be done about crap like this as people could have easily been killed if it were just a smidge more ne at that time.

After that got ahead of it and it produced a nice cone sw of Stockton. This moved around the rotation while a new larger tornado formed in teh middle as it roped out. Shot video of this to its ne directly in the path again till about 1 mile away again. Again with an amazinge mesocyclone full of hail. Just an amazing storm. I'm sorry to hear about some of the damage but so far no word of any injuries. Off to get a room. Probably going to be some sweet shots of the Hill City tornado as I hear it was more clear(less precip) a bit south of where I was. I had a good view but rain was a pain. Also my vid cam messed up at the end of the Hills City storm. Not sure what is wrong with it. Thank god for back up vid cams. Shot the Stockton tornado with it.

reports of half mile wide tornado in Floyd county. My God that think is a beast on radar. HP Beast

That thing could be the RADAR storm of the day - LOL! Absolutely amazing - what a huge beast.

I can't believe there's been so many tornadoes and horrific supercells - and I've seen absolutely nothing. Nice. Work sucks.
