05/17/05: TALK: Central Plains

Nick I agree about the picture - however looking at the video it is a dead cert tornado. In fact there were two spin up's, the first is questionable as I did not see a funnel myself , but the second had a well defind funnel and both had direct connection to the updrafts.

After this I saw lots of outflow spawned ground cirulations.

Nick I note that you said that you got on the cell 5 -10 mins after it was Torn warned. We saw the first vortex at 16:04 and the second at 16:06. The warning was issued at 16:15 according to http://kamala.cod.edu/offs/KLBF/0505172115.wfus53.html

we were on the cell from the very first moment it started ~ infact we have a good 45 mins of video that will make an intersting time laspe oneday..

I'd guess tornado. It'd take one helluva an RFD to loft that much dust a thousand feet into the air.

Better contrast/cleaned up version:

(If you want me to take that image down, let me know, as I didn't ask permission before cleaning it up & posting it) ;)

BTW -- are non condensation-funnel tornados more frequent in high LCL/high T/Td spread scenarios?
