I have a summer job in the Netherlands, starting in a few days. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a few websites good for forecasting, or surface observations, etc for that neck of the woods. Although I’m not expecting anything, it would be nice to just keep an eye on the weather while I’m there.:)

Hi Robert,

Welcome to the Netherlands! (though I live in France nowadays ;))
I maintain the Convective Weather Maps (GFS model) at http://lightningwizard.estofex.org both for Europe and the United States. Check also ESTOFEX (http://www.estofex.org) for daily forecasts of severe storms (I am one of the forecasters). Radar for Western Europe is found at http://www.meteox.com and satellite loops: http://wind.met.fu-berlin.de/cgi-bi...nt=16&intervall=30&refresh=10&playmode=Endlos

Good sites for general weather links and model output:

cheers and good luck with your job (which town?) and the Dutch...!

Thank you for all the links that should definitely help get me started. I’m going to be in Dwingloo. I believe its northeast from Amsterdam about an hour or two. I’m working in a summer program on radio astronomy basically. If any European storm chasers are in the area I’d certainly be willing chat. I'll be there beginning Sat. for 10 weeks. Thanks again for the links!

Hi Robert,

I grew up in the Dwingeloo area, it's quite rural :)
Unfortunately it's not the best territory for chasing, because most of the time trees are planted on both sides of the road, obscuring the view. More suitable areas for chasing in the Netherlands are extreme northern parts of the country and the province of Flevoland. Most of the time you will find open fields here and traffic is quite limited. Elsewhere in Holland traffic is a real problem.
Chances of storms in our country seem to increase significantly from today on and latest GFS output suggests a stormy week after the weekend as well, so be welcome! :)

If you need a quick view at weather icons and/or temperatures for the Netherland you can take a look at the site of the company I work for:
http://www.weathernews.nl/
You can take a look at the site of the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute as well, but again most of this site is in Dutch:
http://www.knmi.nl/about_knmi/index.html

Furthermore I can recommend the links mentioned by others, especially by Oscar.

Have a good flight!

Bernard

Hi Robert!

Just for if you decide to move south, here is the spanish storm chasers page (aka kazatormentas).
We issue alert maps for severe weather on a daily basis, and we try to keep the page translated into English...

www.spainsevereweather.com

Yep, the "sunny" Spain also has chasers!

Here, the National Weather Institute website for Spain:
