Verizon Modems - Which has the least dropouts?

Hi everyone,

I have been browsing all the different threads regarding modems, data plans, service providers, etc.

I am curious to compare the USB760 modem to all the other Verizon hardware. In years past I would use a tethered cell phone and a Wilson external cell antenna. That setup seemed to work well but in the past year or two I have started using these USB air-cards.

I am curious as to how well the built in antenna works on the USB760 modem from Verizon. Some reviews show stellar results while others complain of constant drops.

In other words is it an okay piece of hardware or should I be worried about major dropouts?

In the past I have had some signal issues in Eastern OK and Southern Texas along the Mexican border but for the most part service was alright.

Any feedback from anyone anywhere would be great! I don't know where I will mainly be hanging out this year, that's for the month of May to decide.

Thanks!

I've got the USB727 which is exactly the same as the 760, just not as small. It's worked pretty darn well for me, sans the antenna jack (I'm having my second one repaired today)

When it comes down to it all the current evdo cards have the same chipset inside from qualcomm so it really does not matter. You just choose form factor and price that works best for you , cards are virtually equal.

Thanks a ton! The whole thing with the chipset being the same sounds like the answer I was hoping for. Basically hardware wise there is no difference. So I guess now I just have to choose whether I want to spend the extra $$ for the antenna jack or just try and tough it out with the stick alone.

Thanks!

An external antenna makes all the difference in the world sometimes. Last year in the Texas Panhandle it sometimes was the difference between 2 bars and no signal.

I live in rural Middle Tennessee and there are a few dead spots where the antenna fills in the gaps 100%.
