Hello folks, I realize this is kind of short notice.

I am an employee at the Moore, Oklahoma, Home Depot, and with my manager's blessing, I have put together a Severe Weather Awareness Event for the community.

This Saturday (February 28) from 10am - 4pm, we will be hosting the event at the Moore Home Depot...

650 SW 19th Street
Moore, OK 73160
( map )

There will be free food, I will be teaching a clinic on preparing your home for severe weather, we will be programming weather radios, and there will be activities for the kids.

If any of you would like to come out, and bring your chase vehicles, I'm sure we could block off a little area of the parking lot for a minor storm chaser car show. If any of you have video (family friendly) that you would like to share, we can pop it in to our TV and put it on display.

Please PM me or leave a message here if you would like to help!

Thanks.

I think that is a fantastic idea, Chris! It's a win-win situation for the public and Home Depot. Hope it goes well (and be sure to push those weather radios)!

Excellent!

Nice idea. Might be a good opportunity to point out the value of those ties that they usually keep across from the saw in the lumber area, which regrettably are usually not displayed as having any useful value except for attaching boards together.

It's too bad they're called "hurricane ties" because they're worth their weight in gold (literally) for the downburst, RFD, and near-tornado wind fields we often get on the Plains. I built a 30 x 16 ft gable roof a couple of years ago and it only took one hour to armor the structure with these things. As Tim Marshall has pointed out repeatedly, once you have a roof failure, all bets are off.

Good point Tim. Thanks for reminding me of that!

PS. I am the guy who randomly came up to you when you were looking at the screws there and told you that I had your books!

This is a fantastic idea of yours Chris! A great way to reach out to, and educate the community. I hope it's a huge success. Perhaps you'll blaze a trail for this type of thing to be done as a way for HD's to do this not just in Moore, but other communities.

Great Idea Chris

I work for the Home Depot also here in N.Tx and I make sure that Severe Weather awarness is a must both for our employees and our customers.
