Spring is in the air

Not to make anyone lose any sleep but I wouldn't mind this pattern shift in 384 hours. I am just doing some late night February wishcasting ;)

Wow, thats kinda ironic that you point that out. For the last week, without looking at any long long term models, I have been predicting the first week of March to be the first reasonable severe storm event in the South, west of the Mississippi and I dont mean right along the Gulf Coast. But who knows, an intense high might just set up over the Rockies and park itself there killing any kind of chance of severe weather.

But for all those *****ing about the 2-3 feet of snow, you dont obviously know the meteorological implications that can have come springtime. You better really be glad you have that snow. The more the better. Im telling ya, more moisture in the ground will reward when Spring really does come around.

But actually the synoptic patter were currently in is par for the course this time of year with the parade of systems. I just completed my weekly OWL shift this afternoon and its amazing to see these waves come in right on the heels of the one before it. Its like theres no time at all before ones exiting the state and the next one is busting in the door on the west side. If we can just get these systems to slow down and allow enough time for return flow to have its effects, then maybe we might get lucky. But Im hoping for the first week of March however I wouldnt put money it, Ive been wrong before, in fact, Im wrong most of the time..its just the rare times im right, Im right on an epic scale.

Just because you feel spring in OKC and I am still below zero in Chicago, doesn't mean I have to agree with you....;)

Well, I will say I've noticed a few nice changes here lately. Even with the relentless cold and snow we've been experiencing. Obviously the days have become noticably longer, but more importantly the strength of the solar rays. Even with temps barely above zero, the temperature inside of my car at the end of my workday (if the sun was out all day) is actually pretty warm. Probably 40°+. Warm being relative of course. So I guess that's nice.

It was not dark out when I left work at 6pm MT today, which is a sure sign for me that spring is not to far away on the calendar! Have already had a couple of 60+ degree days allowing for an open sunroof on the drive home just reinforces it. Although our snowiest months along the front range of CO are still ahead in March and April so reality will set back in at some point I'm sure.

A true sign that Srping is in the air: I was driving home last night and went through one skunky stink-cloud after another, and my car smelled like skunk for a good amount of time as a result.

Skunks are out looking for mates = Spring is in the air.

While the days are longer and the sun intensity is getting stronger the weather isn't spring-like..matter of fact we should see another 4-8" of snow again in N.IL.
As if we don't have enough already here. Ironically we had a huge storm up here same time last year..But generally once March arrive we are usually on the upswing..

We got 2.5" of snow last night in about two hours time and today it is in the upper thirties and the snow is already almost gone not to mention the new lake in our backyard ;). I know it doesn't exactly feel like spring, but it does look like it out here with all of the green grass and the smell of spring is in the air.

It really does feel like spring here in Northeast Ok, with Temps in the upper 50s and a warm south breeze and even warmer temps forecasted for tomorrow. Also its nice to read the forecsast discussion from tulsa this afternoon and have them talking about severe potential by the beginning of next week (8 days out). Im truly ready for something other than freezing rain and sleet which has been prevelant almost all winter long.

Still 6" of frozen crust on the ground here, even after two days slightly above freezing. As Jim Z said it looks like another 4-8"+ snow on the way by Tuesday. That'll bring us close to 60" for the season. It really seems like spring will never get here!

The birds were definitely making a lot of noise outside this morning. It may not feel completely like spring yet, but it sure is starting to sound like it atleast.

Boys its coming, wether you believe it or not, the global pattern is beginning to shift. Im the guy that goes around campus every February chalking "they're coming" on the sidewalks. I know it was post dryline but we hit 75 today. Looks as if we might flirt with that number again this week. And David's 384 GFS forecast along with my wishcast for first week of March still stands a chance of verifying.
Its time to get your gear ready and have everything in place. Start looking at your daily schedule to see what days are more chaser friendly then others. Plan ahead now. Remember severe storms can produce tornadoes with....oh sorry was looking at storms in SHV vicinity.
Anyways get ready. If im wrong, im wrong, but better to be safe and prepared then sorry and SOL.

Hard to even imagine it being that nice outside at this point. Back up to 9" of snow on the ground again.

The overall pattern is definitely changing though, and it's about time! Almost all the bitter cold has been drained from Canada, so it'll be hard to tap true arctic air for quite awhile. Hopefully this will allow a much warmer pattern to evolve over the next few weeks.

I usually have the first thoughts of springtime when the frogs start up. I have been hearing them for the past week. Todays high in the low 30s and 20+ mph winds all day sure doesn't feel like winter is ready to let go just yet. I would rather it stay cold for a few weeks longer if it means there wont be a replay of last years major killing freeze in early April.

Spring in the Air

We visited my wife's family near Topeka, KS over the weekend.
Unfortunately we completely missed any snowfall. However, Spring is definitely in the air there.
Saw two days straight of large amounts of Canadien Geese flying north overhead.
In fact on Sunday morning, I witnessed several waves of them during a 15 minute period of time, filling the sky with breath taking splendor, honking and flying northbound.

Two weekends ago here in N.TX I noted our first purple carpet of heather-like groundflowers gracing the ground. Also noted my first Redwing Blackbird, which is a harbinger of Spring.

Spring is always relative. Our current average high of 63 and the greening grass with crisp low to mid 50's post cold front weather in the Dallas area is right in line with Early May weather that I experienced when living up in New England.

Dry lines whipping through and cutting off our moisture supply before the cold front rolls through behind it is also (an unfortunate) early Spring weather pattern here in N.Texas. This just happened yesterday.
