Spring is in the air

One of the parts I love about Texas, it gets "springish" earlier in the year. Near 70 today with nice sun and felt really great to walk in the park! Very warm on the skin.

Yep today was upper 60's but this is Texas. Tomorow night we are expecting an ice/snow mix through thursday night :(

Love those 40 degree 24 hr swings...lol

Once those slight and moderate risks along ths coast like tomrrow make it north of I-20 then I might start getting excited

We don't hardly even have winter here. After a few nights below freezing, and I mean only JUST below freezing, it always seems to bob back up into the 70's all winter long. The folks from South Florida actually break out the heavy coats when the mercury reaches about 60F, no kidding! I just have to laugh. Prior to the latest round of severe storms, my area reached the mid to upper 80's. So we actually enjoyed the snow and cooler air up in Estes Park and Hidden Valley over the weekend. The Denver trip was a nice retreat. I have to admit, though, it helps the SDS to watch the anvil lightning from the plane.

There is a windchill warning across the upper midwest and in northern MN temps+windchill could get -40 to -50 below as a artic blast moves though. For central Iowa we could see -20 to -30 for the windchill tonight. That tell's me Spring is still a ways off.

When we stop having windchills below zero then I will start thinking about spring.

Got more ice coming this week and I have spent the last few days getting the trailer ready to go to the track and test this weekend lol.

I was jogging in a t-shirt with a high of 44 degrees today! Yes, spring in Idaho is getting closer. :) You all can keep the snow and frigid air. I'm ready to take the top off my Jeep.

Today's cold front here in the plains has hurt my spring optimism. The current temperature in Omaha is -7. The wind chills this morning in the Upper Midwest are just brutal! Think if we got this arctic air mass a month ago instead of now how cold it would be!

The good news is its February 20th and this looks short lived.

I will start thinking about spring when the Arctic parade ends. Granted it does get well above freezing this weekend, but then I see another polar air mass coming down mid next week on the GFS. Blah! The high albedo isn't helping anything warm up either. I'm sick of snow, sick of cold, and getting generally sick, lol.

I agree with David, when I checked the GFS this morning it made me want to smack myself with a frying pan and knock myself out for 2 weeks. I know it tends to exagerate cold air intrusions far out but its been pretty accurate lately and given the recent trend...I cant help but think it will verify.

These crazy temperature swings also mean Chicagos pot-hole problem wont be going away anytime soon. Plus allot of our neighboring suburbs are out of salt.

According to Mr. Skilling....our forecasted high of only 9 degrees has happened just 11 other times [as in days failing to reach double digits] in the past 138 years this late in the season.

Its been a brutal winter, so we best be rewarded in springtime.

Worst winter in fifty years in Iowa, considering all the factors. We've had four record setting low temp days in February alone this year in Ames, which is an astounding statistic. The coldest day was today, when my car froze up literally. -10 to -15 at dawn; windchill of Lord knows what.

At 4pm it is 10 degrees here in Leavenworth, Kansas. My wife had to drive me to work today because my truck wouldn't start. Spring has sprung! LOL

The only way I'd say that spring is in the air is if someone tossed a Slinky over my head!

I associate Spring's return with moisture....so when I stop getting static shocks off everything that could start a car, I'll begin embracing the idea of Spring again.

Meanwhile in Texas.............This morning (just needed a sweater, no coat) on the country portion of my school bus run I saw a flight of ducks in the early dawn light. They were flying low and gathering speed and I noticed that they were forming a "v" alignment; headed north.
Yep, Spring is coming.

Ch13 based in Des Moines Iowa said they had a low windchill last night of -30 and that has not happened since the year 2000. This has been one brutal winter.

How cold is it up in Canada right now? Does anyone know?
