Just scratching the surface but so far so good, seems like a nice new face for ST. I’m with Lanny on having the hometown shown on the personal info and conversely I’m not too keen on being labeled a “noob”. But overall I’m excited about the new site and appreciate all the hard work and effort that went into making it a reality. Thanks Steve and everyone else that contributed, great job!

Just noticed "noob" shows up on mine, too. I guess after only 20 years of chasing, I am still a noob. I also guess that if we are not administrators or staff, we are all noobs, lol. Seriously, I am sure this will be fixed; no big deal!

Wow! Lots to check out but my first impression is very positive. It's evident that a lot of hard work went into the refresh. Well done.

Not trying to be funny here, but how do I get into user preferences? Can't see that option on any menu, and nothing about it in the FAQ.

Hover your cursor over your name in the upper right corner and you'll see options you can edit including preferences.

You can change your title! Everyone is 'Noob' by default (to this forum reincarnation!) but can go into user preferences and change it. I'm the internet fixxer.

Maybe admins can choose their status but apparently for all others status is to be earned:

Not a big deal, it's all about encouraging positive contribution and that's cool! For a fleeting moment I had a thought about what if there was a "troll" status for posting too much garbage but now that wouldn't be nice...

I did notice that one of my previous posts had the text corrupted in the conversion. Punctuation marks including apostrophes and quotations became garbled, likely due to them being copied and pasted from Word and not being compatible with the new format:

I voted for two threads but after further thought I like Skip’s idea of separate forums with one dedicated strictly for reports. I’m strongly...

I got a good laugh out of the 'trophy award' notification. Between this and the like/dislike/agree/informative buttons you guys have really made the interaction between members more fun. Still getting used to the new layouts, but reading is very easy on the eye on my laptop. Haven't tried it on the phone yet. Again, thanks to everyone.

There have been many suggestions and requests. The staff is keeping a running list of issues that we will try to address, essentially all of them minor at this juncture. Given the actual forum software, some of them may not be modifiable, and thus will probably just taking some getting used to over the old forum software, but do know that we are or will be making an attempt to fix whatever bugs we can fix per user requests. Please be patient and know that none are being ignored, and most importantly, thank you to everyone for all of the feedback so far here!

Overall a nice update. I'm out as far as how much I like it tho. Tried to look for a name on ST and couldn't find it no less even a search function for it like on the old site. Can this be added in please?

I know that you all are busy getting the important behind the curtain stuff done so I only bring this up as just a thing that maybe we could do later on:

I was reading through the "Would you rather" thread today and someone asked what a "bird fart tornado" was. I thought then to myself, what if we could have a "Chaser Dictionary" section in the [WIKI]Chaser Education center[/WIKI]? This would be great for chaser lexicon (ex. Bears Cage) that is traditional to the chaser community but also could include common meteorological things (ex. Wall Cloud). I see here you can also assign a {/wiki} tag that links to that article. I think this would be a great tool as we move forward with the new stormtrack.

Thanks,
James

@Jason Boggs nice! I hadn't gotten to that one yet. What's a good way to suggest additions? (Like "Bird Fart" and "Barber Pole") By private message? Or fire up a suggested definitions thread?

Edit: oops, just realized that's an external page. Sorry about that...I was having a delusional moment & thought we were building/maintaining one here.

@James Hyde @Jeremy Perez We eventually would like to have something of our own hosted here that we can add to/change as needed. The extra benefit of that is that those terms can be hotlinked into the forum as James pointed out. Right now it's just an issue of manpower.
