Hello Everyone,

My name is Bryan and I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. My wife and I are both in the Air Force and live in Wichita, Kansas. For many years, we both worked at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. She flew lightweight military jump aircraft and I worked as a parachuting instructor. It’s this love of jumping and flying that first drew us to study weather many years ago. We both have had extensive training and hands-on experience in aviation weather. From 2000-2005, I studied “Understanding the Skyâ€￾ by Dennis Pagen so I could better understand microclimatology in mountain environments.

In 2006, Jennifer and I relocated to Wichita, Kansas. In January of 2008, my desire to learn about severe weather began to surface. It started mostly with internet research (which is where I became hooked on Stormtrack) and then I took a basic spotter course with the Sedgwick County Emergency Management office. Throughout the 2008 spring chase season, my wife and I armchair-chased from our computer every chance we could, and once we began to understand the mechanics, we started heading out into the field. Never wanting to overextend ourselves, we maintained safe positions relative to the storm and spent the majority of our time learning to identify the various features we were observing. We were awed by the power and beauty of Mother Nature.

We are now hooked on weather. Our motives are to continue learning how severe weather forms, learn about forecasting, chase as often as possible, and capture beautiful imagery through photography. Stormtrack has been invaluable and I am excited to be a part of this wonderful online community.

As for 2009, we are both attending the National Storm Chaser Convention next weekend and could not be more excited. I plan on chasing as often as possible, to include a 10-15 day chase vacation in May.

At any rate, I don’t want to talk everyone’s ear off on my first post, but I did want to make a good introduction. I look forward to spending a lot of time here, contributing with meaningful posts, and hopefully meeting many of you throughout the Great Plains!

Bryan

Bryan, it's great to have you here. You'll find that most of the people here will go out of their way to help you any way they can. Make yourself at home!

Hello! My name is Nikki, and I am brand spanking new to the boards! I was ecstatic to find this forum and cant wait to participate :) I am from Phoenix, AZ and am highly interested in learning about chasing among many other things.

I live in Gardner Kansas and have little chase experience other than a few runs by myself. I'd like to join a team and/or get information on how to start chasing correctly. I have a 2008 Toyota Tundra Double cab TRD 4x4 that I could take along. I have a laptop with Sprint Mobile Broadband, portable GPS, as well as cameras and a hard drive camcorder. I do not mind doing the camera or video for a team as this will be my first real team chase.

Greetings!

Greetings all!

I've been perusing this board for some time now and decided to finally get a user name.

I am the chief meteorologist at KDLT-TV in Sioux Falls, SD. I'm originally from the Minneapolis-area, with some roots in Chicago. I went to school at UW-Madison some years back now. I'm excited to be back in the Plains now because I just spent a couple of years in Casper, WY, doing morning weather. Thankfully we were lucky and had an unusual spring last year - which brought us numerous tornadoes and tornado warnings to the area, and I witnessed one by chance that formed on top of Casper Mountain. I love to chase & haven't done it enough, so hopefully moving out to Sioux Falls will give me that opportunity.

You guys all have great posts and I can't tell you how much I've learned from reading everyone's posts on here - and finally saw this particular thread and wanted to say "hello!"

Take care!

P.S. I want to give Matthew Hartman credit for helping me with some coding to make a new radar website www.theweatheronline.com. It's been my little project to re-learn html & javascript coding, and it's finally starting to look like a real website. Thanks Matthew!

Hi guys! I'm new to the site and the forums, and the storm chasing thing. I live in NEA, and we see a few tornado's every now and then. I saw a big one when I was really little, and always been fascinated. Can't wait to read through all the forums!

Welcome Aaron! I remember watching that Casper supe last year. It had a hell of a hook on it! Glad someone who would appreciate it got to see that tube. Although I think of Casper as hell on earth, it would have been interesting to see a tube on top of Casper Mountain, which looms over the city! Good luck in Sioux Falls!

Hi Misti, welcome to Storm Track! This is a great place to learn and network!

I'm Rodrigo, I live in Dallas and I have been begging the editor of my campus paper to let me write a story about tornado chasing. I want to see what it takes to ride along or get in on this very interesting world because I live in tornado alley.

I live in Topeka, KS and I have been reading this board for a couple of years. I enjoy trying to make my own forecasts and have learned a lot from these threads in the past.

New Twisted Angel

Howdy from Texas!

I've used this site many times, and have just (yesterday) been certified. Weather has always fascinated me. When my husband told me that he wanted to go on our first chase, I was elated that he was just as twisted as me!! My son is just as twisted and i love to brag that he saw his first tornado on his 15th birthday (the night of the Clayton, NM tornado)...The gift we'd gotten him was only bragged about AFTER he gushed over seeing that twister...."oh yeah and i got a new PS2" LOL.

Nice to be in a spot where we can learn and share!

Hello everyone :) My name is Jim. I live here in Flag City USA (Findlay OH).
My most memorable weather moment was watching KSN's live online coverage of the Greensburg tornado back in 2007. The reason I say that is because Dave Freeman, chief meterologist at KSN, should of won an emmy for his extraordinary coverage during the Greensburg tornado. He made everything easy to understand during that coverage.

Hey everyone. My name is Kris. I found this website several months ago, and just was a lurker for a long time until another memeber told me I should go ahead and sign up.

I've been chasing off and on for nearly 5 years now, and it seems every year, I find myself going out more and more until it seems I go every opportunity there is now!

I live in Sherman, Tx which puts me in a pretty good position to get onto storms across most of Texas/Oklahoma. No drive is too far for that piece of magic!!

Anyway, without going into to much detail, I hope to learn more and more! Who knows, maybe I can meet some of you guys out on road!

Until then... I learn and share ideas I have on here!

Hello all!

My name (obviously) is Steve. I don't get to chase since I live in East Tennessee, where it would be suicide even if I knew what I was doing.

But growing up in Bethany, OK, I have had a fascination with severe weather all my life. My friends here rib me about it all the time, but they didn't grow up where knowing what green clouds meant would save your life, or that if a cloud looks like it's touching the ground it probably is and you need to go the other way.

I would have majored in meteorology, unfortunately the math gods did not smile upon my birth. Can't get a met degree without calc, and I worked my butt off to pass algebra with a D in high school.

What I hope to get out of StormTrack is a better understanding of how severe storms form; what conditions need to be in place, what conditions can't be in place, how to use resources like the SPC to see if those conditions are present, etc. I'd like to get to the point where I can do the spotting cert. courses. Of course, like everyone else, time is precious.

So I'll probably lurk mostly, look at the incredible images you folks get, and ask the occasional n00b question. I beg forgiveness in advance.

Welcome to Stormtrack everyone.

Hey Terra, I think you meant to say the Clovis tornado instead of the Clayton tornado. I live here in Amarillo too, so it's nice to see some local folks on here.

Hello

Hello everyone,

I am Roy from Holland, and I am a weather enthousiast since my childhood, although I graduated in chemistry ;) Me and my friend Casper (also from the Netherlands) have chased for two seasons now. We'll be chasing the planes again the last two weeks of May this year. Although the waterspouts can be quite lovely in Holland, nothing beats the real stuff across the Atlantic!

Best regards!
