Hi all! I'm Laura from Hallam Nebraska. My interest in storms has always been there but intensified after the May 22,2004 tornado that destroyed my hometown and home. Since then I have relied on the knowledge of the people on Stormtrack. I find they are very accurate. I feel like I'm addicted to the weather now and my interest gets stronger with each passing season. With that I've become a member and am now starting to post a little trying to gain more knowledge and friends with the same interest.

Hey Laura! Long time no talk!

Hi David! No kidding long time no talk too...it's about that season again though, you would have heard from me sooner or later! :) Ready for the storms to come rolling in again I'd imagine!

Welcome, Laura! That was an amazing weather day. I feel sad for Hallum, but I also feel a sense of pride for encouraging a chaser friend of mine to get up into Nebraska from Topeka to chase, and he saw his first and only tornado---the beginning of the Hallum monster. Five months later, he past away from a terminal form of cancer. But he spoke with pride about seeing and videotaping something he had tried to see for 5 years.
When we all hear the name Hallum, we think of a record-breaking, devastating twister.

Thanks Rick! Sorry to hear of your friends passing but I would imagine he's looking down on us all keeping us safe now! I wish I would have known about Stormtrack before that day. I know if I would have I wouldn't have been caught in the middle of that monster! I admire all of you that chase and rely on your information and posts here to keep my family safe. When you guys are near, I'm staying close to home and my storm shelter! :)

Howdy, Laura! Nice to meet you. =] Appreciate your nice comment on mine, in response to best places to live for tornadoes.

And it's nice to meet all of y'all here at StormTrack. I've had a lifelong fear of storms, since moving to "The Alley" it's only gotten worse. Not going to live my life by fear anymore ('course, different if tornadoes are mentioned LOL), but am starting to stare it down by taking pictures off my front porch. No car, but hey, got to start somewhere! LOL

Welcome Laura!! Still amazes me everytime I drive through Hallam, just seems weird driving through a small rural community and pretty much everything is new, including the F4 pub, you make it there much?

Hi Dustin! I agree, everything is oddly new....would give anything to have the old back! Biggest thing is we lost most of our tree's. That just makes it look extra bare. I used to go to the F4, but unfortunately, the F4 closed:(. The low insurance payout and high cost of rebuilding it finally caught up to them. It's just not the same town without it either. We do have a new place across the street, the old Hitchin' Post, but nothing compares to the F4! Every year on May 22nd at 8:30 the 9 of us that took shelter in the cooler would pile in there again for a "celebration" shot. Hmmmm, wonder where we'll go this year...can't break tradition!

 Thats some BS, just this weekend we were talking about making plans to head down there for some drinks one of these nights.

Come on down and check out the Hitchin Post. Same people just a little different atmosphere. But, a small town bar is just that, a small town bar. You can't beat em! The new place should be opening in a few months. You'll nver believe what their naming it??? The Hallam Corral:eek:, we'll have the Hitchin' Post and the Corral. It's just wrong! (my checks will still get made out to the F4) ;)

Welcome Travis, Taylor, Laura, and everyone else. I'm still fairly new, but found this to be a very welcoming and helpful bunch. I had always heard the chasing community was a tight bunch and not very warm to new people. I found that not to be true at all.
