Hey there everyone. My name is Scott. I don't get opportunities to chase here. I live in upstate, northeastern NY, basically right on the border of Canada and Vermont. Tornadoes are pretty rare in these parts. A majority of my excitement comes from snow and ice storms, with some nice thunderstorms during the summer months. I have been interested in Storm Chasing for quite a while but am still very much a novice. I hope to meet some nice people here where I can glean some knowledge and hopefully get a little smarter in the process

New to Stormchasing

I live in Arkansas and just joined this site in order to learn more about tornado tracking and forecasting. A friend and I want to spend a week this spring in Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas to see if we can get video and pictures of tornados. Any ideas as to what the most logical Mon-Fri week would be?

Hello Kim, Scott, Bryan, and Chris. I hope I didn't miss anyone.

Chris, I don't think you would go wrong with the second or third week of May. Something is usually going on in that time frame it seems like.

But I'd recommend reading up on some of the posts on Stormtrack to learn a bit about safety, forecasting, nowcasting, and road etiquette before going out there. Also I'd get a copy of the Storm Chaser's Handbook.

I suppose I should throw my hat in the ring here and introduce myself.

My name is Dave Marshall, I've been chasing about 12 years, primarily in the mid and upper Ohio valley and southeast US. I'm a charter member of StormNet, and currently act as a director for our chasers and TV stations in the southern US, as well as the webmaster for our website, which has recently returned from parts unknown.

I've done a bit of everything. I've got a couple hurricanes under my belt, several tropical storms. Katrina, Wilma, Ike, and Fay that I can remember off the top of my head. I've got my fair share of tornadoes, and even chased a blizzard (it was thundersnow, I swear!) I've done some chasing in the Midwest a couple times, but primarily my experience is in the eastern US.

My interests within the hobby are pretty diverse. I've been relatively successful with my video and photography attempts, and have sold some here and there. The (terrible) video from the Feb 18 Reynolds, GA tornado that aired on CNN, WMAZ, and KOCO was mine.

I also have some serious interest in the scientific side. I'm a RADAR specialist in the USAF and I have a good bit of interest in weather instrumentation, and have even done a little of my own R&D.

Right now my focus is on getting a better understanding of the intricacies of storm structure and lifecycle.

Quick intro here.

My name is Mark Stauss. I currently live in Trimble, MO, which is about 25 miles due North of downtown Kansas City, MO. Attended my second spotter class this week in Plattsburg, MO. I've been a lifelong weather nut and have been chasing storms off and on for many years. Mostly chase the NW Missouri and NE Kansas area since that is close to home and work does not allow me to stray too far during the week. I'll get much further away from home on the occasional weekend and I am planning a week long vacation this spring dedicated to chasing.
